Cheap waterproof, windproof jacket and gear

For me the Tools are good into the low 30's on the road. Anything colder I go to the Giros. just fyi. 😀

yeah and the Diluvio's work comfortably for me in the 30's (plus they match my shoe covers 😀) so I'm gonna look at the lobster claws for something down into the teens... I've got plenty of in between stuff...

I picked up a pair of PI Barrier lobster gloves because they were 50% off (at a local shop too!) for 35 bucks I figure it was worth the shot. I wore these for an hour and 40 at 12* on the road with a 40* thin glove as a liner and they were good. They are good down to 20 (maybe lower) by themselves. The downside is they are alittle bulky looking, but don't feel bulky. These are the best winter gloves I have found next to the Assos glove system, but the Assos are $200, where these are $80.

although I've never minded paying for quality gear I can't get over the mental hurdle of $200 for gloves (technically 3 pairs though they might be)... the PI Barrier and the Giro 100's lobster claws are probably where it's at for me...

any issues with dexterity while shifting? maybe it's just me but they look really awkward...

I think the lobsters are the warmest option out there. I will sometimes complain about dexterity, but Id rather have warm hands.

I have the Diluvio as well. These are much warmer. They have a fleece lining which feels like a warm blanket. 😀 Plus the ergonomics blow the castelli version away.

The later are tough to use on the road. But when its that cold you hopefully will be in the woods!

per your (and Kevin's endorsement of lobster claws) recommendation(s) I picked up the Giro 100 Proof lobster claws from Halter's this afternoon before Pearl and I hit the road... the temps were a steady 33 and my hands were super warm and toasty... love the liners although I think the sizing is a bit off on them... I really need a medium liner and a large glove... Chris confirmed the he needs a large liner and an xl glove...

dexterity was indeed compromised and felt super awkward for the first hour but after a while I just forgot about them altogether... jury is still out for use on the trails...

bottom line is these are stupid warm and if the Pearl Izumi's Kevin mentioned are as warm or warmer you can't lose with either... my hands were hot at one point so if it's compromised dexterity or frozen digits, it's a no brainer...

warmer is bettah! glad you found something that does the trick. now report back when it gets below freezing! the real test!

I dont think on the mtb it should be as much of a problem as your thumbs are doing most of the work. Getting the feel of the brake lever will take some time tho...

Hopefully next time ill get out with yall!
