Can We Talk “Single speed”

Give it a go. Of the 3 mtbs I own, the SS gets more usage than the geared HT and FS.
 
I rode my SingleSpeed today. I will tell you climbing isn't nearly as bad as you think it might be. I'm generally more annoyed with spinning out on the flats than anything else.

That is true even if you don't have the legs and lungs of @jimvreeland , it makes you more aware of the terrain as you need to take advantage of any downhill to use the momentum on the climbs. I would say full rigid SS with no dropper post is your best training tool as it also forces you to pick the right line, every time.
