Brake pads/Avid XO

I was riding upstate NY the last couple days and my front brake started squealing like a cat with it's tail stuck in a door, so then I tried to adj the pad contact and nothing. Tried to loosen the pads up by taking the wheel off and pushing the pads back by hand, no good. Then called a few friends and couldn't get help so I took the pads completely out. The pads don't seem to be getting even contact as the end closest to the hub is really worn down. Does anybody have any knowledge on how to adj the pads without using the dial thing by the lever ?? Any help is appreciated.

You need to lube the piston seals, which is risky because you can end up squeezing the pistons out of the calipers while doing it. There should be info about it on the web. Don't use oil or grease, you need to use dot fluid.
