advice on this location? Google search brings up bangtail divide and Owenhouse cycling for rentals. Do I need bear spray?

Cougar Spray. Although you'd be dead before you ever knew one was around.

I spent time north, south and east of Billings. Lots of rattle snakes, the coyotes looked like killing machines. At the time I was working on farms and saw little to now people daily. Carried a Ruger 44 magnum, half the shells were birdshot for the snakes, other FMJ in case I saw something bigger. Unbelievable country, glad I got to see it.

You might want to ask permission from this guy first too.

Photos from the IMBA epic, 31 mile loop bangtail divide, first 5 was straight up to the top and last 8 was road back to the car. There were other trails to do a longer loop but my legs were dead. Some flowy sections, altitude makes it rough. Still snow and ice on the trails. Rental could have been better, had a giant fathom HT. Saw 1 deer and a rabbit, did bring the bear spray. Lots of hikers, 3 other bikes and 1 dirt biker.
