Bikes Direct Fat Bikes

Well, I've gone and done it. I just ordered a Motobecane Boris FS X9 Bluto in "Star Red". The price was right and it was available now. The wheels are "only" 4", but that should be fine.

Can't wait for it's arrival. I can thank Eddie Z for my newest mania. I was the buddy slipping and sliding in the snow while his ride was tracking straight & true. 🙂

The Boris is supposed to come in on Monday 12/15. Can't wait! Damn you Eddie Z!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'm looking forward to Monday about as much as you are!!

Step away from the bloated Kool Aide
Funny I ordered back in October and you will get yours before I do

Is it sa brand new frame still in production or something? Starting to think it would be faster if they sent you a box of parts and you called a few friends over for an assembly party! 😛

The Boris has arrived. The bike arrived yesterday, so I took the day off and assembled it. Since it was such a gorgeous day, I took the bike out for its maiden ride at Kittatinny.

My overall impression is great and riding the Boris is a ton of fun. The bike is definitely a hardtail, but the harshness of the hardtail is blunted by the big wheels. I was actually surprised at how well the fatbike climbed. Mind you, I am not going to win any records climbing with this bike, but if I put it into a lower gear I was able to spin up the steep hills a lot more efficiently than I tought was possbile with those heavy wheels. The bike was very sure footed and I never lost traction even on some loose stuff.

The Boris came with a Rochshox Bluto 120mm Fork, a SRAM X9 rear derailleur, X7 front derailleur, X7 Shifters, X5 Crankset, Avid BB7 mechanical discs and 4" Vee 8 Tires. Potential upgrades for me would be the handlebars and fatter Ouri grips. The Avid BB7's were a little short of stopping power in the beginning of the ride, but the seemed to do much better toward the end (either they needed a break-in period or I got used to them).

Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and I am looking forward to the first snow now so I can try it out. Never did that before cause snow meant the end of the riding season for me.

Just got a Boris x9 fs.....swapping hydro brakes, a riser bar, and good seat post...tires have to go...the V8's have a bad rep in snow and mud. She also needs to go tubeless....low pressures and tubes do not play well togather.

Let me know how the tubeless goes with the rims. I've heard mixed reviews on how well the system seals. What tires are you planning to get?

Sadly my LBS only has high dollar fat tires:cry:...like I am going to spend $160 for a bike tire😡...I taped the rims tonight and have a tire and tube aired up to 20psi sitting over night to seat in the g-tape....going to try to get the v8's done tomorrow although I do not think the tires will work...the v8s are really loose on the rims...zero need for tire irons with these 😱

Yeah, that's what I have heard. It is probably more the rims than the tires, though.

In any event, the Boris is perfect as is for me and I am not looking to upgrade too much. The Boris is inefficient enough to allow me a great workout during the winter in a shorter amount of time. I am actually looking forward to riding in the snow and I don't think a lighter bike is going to help much in that riding medium.
Also, as an added benefit, this bike is great for bringing newbies out -- it slows you down enough so they don't get discouraged and you also enjoy a great workout at a slower pace.

I bought this bike mainly for winter/early spring riding. Its purpose is to be a brute that can ride on snow, allow me to be goofy and ultimately make me feel like a superstar when I get back onto my main ride. 😀

Friendly advice to make sure you have spare derailleur hangers for your BD bikes. I'm not horribly impressed with the strength of the material used for this component.

My derailleur hanger was bent in shipment, but since I had the tool, I just tweaked it back to straightness. With hindsight, I should've put in a claim, but I didn't. Well, today, it got all bent up for no apparent reason at the tail end of a ride.. (I got out of the forest ok). But at home on the bike stand, the hanger started to fail during adjustment. Fortunately I bought a spare thru BD. I'm gonna buy two more now.

Nothing new with BD hangers, you would think they were made of plastic. Order many and carry with you out on the trails.

Does wheels mfg make hangers for them? If so, I'm sure they would be better

I cannot find either the Boris or the Bullet listed anywhere on either wheelsmfg.com or derailleurhanger.com.

I know the Boris is the same frame as the KHS 4 Season, and that one is not listed either.

Take it off the bike and match it to the pictures using the mounting type as a guide. These open mold frames are usually all the same so they may not list them per model or make.

My Night Train Bullet derailleur hanger is not on either of those sites. I checked all the pics a few times, but it didn't jump out at me.
