Bike Storage Hook Advice

So my two 29ers are taking up too much room in my apartment. I was thinking of hanging them on the wall with a hook. Anyone else do this? Would this at all damage or cause stress to the front rim? Probably foolish of me to think so considering the abuse the rims take on the trails. But I just wanted to make sure before I drill two holes in the wall!

Thanks

Its fine... there is at least one other thread talking about this, I don't remember where it is though.

I do not like to hang my bikes with a hook from the ceiling, but I bought a $30 back rest bike rack from Target that holds two bikes........

You can buy the hooks from walmart or Home Depot for a lot less. Bikes are okay to hang in that manner............ It is all in the preference of the owner.

Depends on the bike too. We had that bike rest for a while but when we got bikes w/ top tubes that weren't straight so we started having trouble getting both bikes on the rack comfortably. Before that it worked great though. Plus like you said owner preference, hanging the bikes freed up more space in the room than the bike rest did for us. Good luck with whatever you decide Foxtrot.

I use these the hooks pictured below. They work great, I just make sure that spokes aren't touching the hooks.

Excellent

Thanks for the feedback and picks, gang!

MikeP--may I ask where you got those hooks? Also, any particular reason why you hung your bikes from the rear rather than front wheel?

I got them at D&Q in Cherry Hill probably atleast 10 years ago, the one the Top Fuel is hung from I actually got a Target. I hang by the rear wheel because I used to take the front wheel off to park in the garage, so I've just been in the habit off hanging them that way even thought I don't park in the garage anymore.

It's easier to lift them up by the back because the bike rest of the bike doesn't swivel all over the place. You also have more places to grab on to on the frame when you're putting it up.

My hooks are far more ghetto .. they're the 50 cent kind from Home Depot. Some of the rubber started to come off, so I taped them with gaffer tape so it doesn't scratch the rim.

yeah much easier to grab to hang

I have 4 pulley unit style hang ups that are very useful for high ceilings... They suspend the bike in useless space and make for more wall space... They are all free if you come and pick em up... Im moving

The offer for whomever
