Wow, been a few weeks since I checked in. Need to recommit to the eating plan. The stress eating between meals has been excessive. As has the adult beverages on weekends.

Updates on some MASS races over the last few weeks. As mentioned in the previous post, Cat1 SS at Forever Farm Radsport XC, there was 2 of us and the other dude front flatted on the first lap. We stuck together for a while, but I just kept going and got 1st place. Rattling MTB 2wks ago, the SS class had 20 pre-registered, 10 showed up. I got 8th place, but was 2min faster from '23 race. Yesterday was Spring XC at Fair Hill, there was 6 of us in Endurance SS. I felt good for the first couple of laps, but I think the effort in those laps, combined with the higher temps had me fighting off cramps from lap 5 thru 7. Finished 2nd on the day.

Going to keep the activity level going the next few weeks leading up to another year of TSE.

Weight
01/02/22 Starting weight = 235.4
04/02/24 previous weight = 200.2
04/29/24 current weight = 196.4
Diff: down 3.8 for the week, total lost = 39

Took it easy last week after racing at Fair Hill. Stuck to the eating plan, but came off the rails on Friday. Then wife and I went camping for the weekend, leaving Friday afternoon. Had a party to attend on Sat afternoon and ate well, meatballs, ziti, wings, beer, and cake. Returned home yesterday and it was Cinco de Mayo. Oops.

Will be better this week. @Boomshot007 posted on FB that SS is ded at TSE, which led to many comments. Been some discussion with Scott and Monte about switching my TSE 50+ registration to SS. As I've told both of them, have done it as a fat Clydesdale 4x, fitter 50+ age group 2x, why not try it on the SS. I have the rigid IndyFab Steel Deluxe, but 5 days would be brutal. Have a Rohloff tensioner and Problem Solvers Zinger for the XD driver to put on my '16 Scalpel that doesn't get used much. Will make a decision this week.

After months of my weight not budging below 190, I decided I needed a bit of a kick start. So I ordered prolon's 5 day fasting mimicking diet kit. They give you a box with everything you'll be consuming for 5 days. Something like 700 calories a day. It's not much at all, but the plan is to put you into ketosis for a few days mimicking a fast. Supposed to have a range of health benefits, but I mostly just wanted to kick start healthier habits and lose a few pounds. I've done it a few times in the past and it usually jump starts some weight loss for me.
Started it on Monday with a starting weight of 190.2. Today is the last day and woke up at 183.4. I probably won't be near the scale again until Sunday, so I'll weigh in again then or Monday too see how much of the weight loss was just water weight. Hopefully the 170s aren't too far away from here.

That's a lot of soup! Good luck!

2 more weeks have passed, more good progress. I have now dipped below pre-injury weight.

April 27 weight: 188.2 lbs

May 11 weight: 186.8 lbs (down 13.2 lbs since surgery)

This time of year tends to be absolutely packed with family/friend events. In the last 3 weeks we've been to 2 birthday dinners at restaurants, a catered toddler birthday, a food festival, and of course we're heading into Mother's day. Feels like landmines waiting to wreck my diet so being down at all in the last 2 weeks is a small miracle. I love that 3 lb bump on Wednesday, just proof when you see giant jumps it's almost always just water.

Training wise still doing 3 indoor rides/1 outdoor ride on medium volume plan. Curious what my AI FTP goes to next week...should be a healthy bump. Otherwise the fitness plan is basically doing something every day. A normal week is roughly 4-5 3 mile walks, 4 rides, 1 hike, and 3 strength sessions. 10k steps streak is up to 66 straight days. Back feels better every day, becoming less of a day to day concern which is awesome 3 months post op.

Happy losing everyone!

Activity level has been consistent. Eating not so much. Need to break the sugar cravings. Assume I've gone fully back to sugar addiction. Snacking too much and on the wrong things.

This week will be more focused on eating right and keeping the activity effort on the moderate level. TSE 5-day is next week, Stage 1 is Tuesday. Sticking with my decision to do it using the Pivot Trail 429. May bring a SS and do 1 stage on it, looking at Stage 4 Tussey Ridge.

10k step streak sitting at 87 days. On the bike training starting to ramp up, doing some gravel riding but no MTB just yet. Tons of stretching/core work still. 3x every week at the new work gym. I also have been doing In Body scans once a month...they're definitely not 100% accurate but I figure if I keep a decent baseline in the readings they should give me a decent idea of progress and they have. I should scan those next month.

Also started 75 Hard which admittedly isn't a very big adjustment for me. I was already working out 2x a day (once outside), I don't drink, I was following a diet and I was reading a book. Biggest adjustment has been the 1+ gallon of water which is more annoying than anything having to pee every 30 minutes.

Happy losing!

Been a few weeks since I've checked in. Staying active, eating hasn't been great. Successfully completed another TSE, my 7th time participating. Placed higher this year, but total time was almost 1h45m slower, 146mi and 17,748ft. I'm a year older, carrying about 15lbs more than last year, and each stage had quite a bit more mud to deal with. Rode clean all week and didn't have any crashes until Stage 5. Slow speed stall and fell over before being able to unclip. Probably going back again in '25. It really is a cool vibe in camp and racing each day.

Raced at Guy's Neshaminy XC yesterday, Cat1 SS. Hopefully we're not seeing #singlespeedisdead. Last 2 MASS races, French Creek and Bear Creek, only had 1 Cat1 SS. I was the only registered rider for this one, so I dropped back and started with my age group, 50-59. J.R.A. since I had no one to race and it rained a bit before the start and really came down during lap 2 and 3. Slippery roots, logs and rocks kept the pucker feelings high. Didn't finish last. Reluctantly stood on the top step and had the podium all to myself.

Need to stop eating whatever I want as the belly is starting to show again. Maintaining is so much harder than losing.

Anyone use the macrofactor app? It's a paid app. $10 a month I think. Supposed to be better than myfitnesspal etc. as it adjusts your eating target based on the data trends you enter.

Through diet and exercise I recently lost about 25lbs but have since stalled.

I havent used either just came to say that from experience that's right around the typical weight loss plateau. It's where your body has adapted to your changes in diet and exercise and it takes a bit more effort to even lose 1-2 lbs. whatever you end up doing just keep at it because maintaining is not gaining = win.

I haven't been checking in because...there isn't much to tell. I indulge way too much on the weekend and then spend the week trying to get back down. I'm just about done with school and I'm looking forward to a more regular schedule of riding and CrossFit.

Yup, I'm happy to maintain. Still better than I was earlier this year or in years past. And my stamina on the bike has noticeably increased. Very happy about that.

I recently cut my calories a bit more to get through the stall. Fingers crossed

today: 181.2

that's down a bunch - cause:

1. I didn't drink any alc this week
2. exercised
3. yesterday I humped wood for my friend's tree service for 11 hours
4. put 90 minutes into 6mr this morning
5. under 1500 calories per day - 1 meal around 6pm, no snacking.

I will need two meals today, but i'll keep lunch light.
