Berkshire Valley WMA?

Anyone familiar with this? I have started to ride back here but there is no maps online. I have not found a good loop yet but there are plenty of trails...

You live about 1/4 mile from my work. I have ridden those trails a couple of times. Sometimes I would ride my mtn bike to work, and cut though there to berkshire valley rd on the way home.

Have you gotten up to Mahlon yet?

I had no idea there were any trails in there. Thanks for posting, I'll have to forward this on to my friend who works at Picatinny...

sweet, thanks for the links Sean! I should have done some more exploring when I lived right down the road. Why I wasted so much time in the Tourne I'll never know....

I am entering the trails from across the street from Pub 199. The trails are somewhat technical and I would compare to some of the stuff I have seen up in Mahlon Dickerson. They are somewhat rutted from what appears to be ATV use, and there is a stretch that is littered with broken glass that you will need to be carefull on... It is very local for me so I don't need to drive there. My experience here is still very incomplete since I just started to try these trails out and they are not marked at all.

A question would be, how easy is it to link the souther most MD trail with this network?

FYI: I believe the rules for Wildlife Management areas state that you can use them for recreation only on Sundays after September 1. That might not even be the case now, as bowhunting can happen on Sundays now, too -- new law passed this past spring, I believe. The WMA areas primary purpose is for hunting, so recreation takes a backseat during hunting season.

I can't find the website that I read that on right now. I'll keep looking.

Thanks Joe! If you find anything post it up.

There was a discussion on here a while ago, and that sounds familiar, now that you mention it. I haven't the vaguest idea how to search for that however because our search doesn't seem to like standard web +serach1 +serach2 criteria, so anything with any words will match.

It looks like it could be done.

Attached is something Sean put together that looks like it'd get you from the Minnisink road area to Taylor/BV Road Area to the Compton Gobel Road Area. Then, take a look at the route here: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/3976743.

If you take the route in sunday.kmz from Minnisink road, to where it hits Compton Gobel Rd, then take the MB route above from Compton Gobel Rd, north, you'll end up at the top of Stone Gate @ MDR.

I've never ridden either, but as I understand it, the route from Compton Gobel road to MDR is a challenge...

I think Brett has ridden it...

That is a cool route. I have ridden compton gobel many many times on my dirt bike years ago. Very rocky double track. Not sure how much fun it would be by bike. But I can literally see the section that winds though mt arlington out my office window. Its making me want to put a ride together. From work, to mahlon, to home (denville). Maybe someday.
