Beginner Ride- Get your S/O out there!

Arwen's Mom

Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains
I will be "leading" beginner rides every other Saturday.
Rides will be at Allaire, 6Mile, Mercer, or where ever, weather permitting.
I will post up about 2 hours before scheduled start time verifying if the ride is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstance.

I may also post up rides during the week occasionally, so be sure to check! If you want to be added to my email notice and reminder list, feel free to PM me your email address. If you are interested in a ride, but need a specific date/time or dont want to ride with a group, feel free to PM me and I will try to help you out.

Please be sure to go to the end of this thread for the most recent updates/locations/etc.

These are beginner rides. No speed demons please.

The point of this is for beginners to get out there, have a good time, learn the trails, increase their confidence in a relaxed environment, without any pressure to perform or to ride faster to keep up with everyone.

We will go only as fast as the slowest rider.

If everyone that shows up wants to go faster, then away we go
But no pressure.

If any rider wants to repeat a section to learn it better and hone skills, I expect everyone in the group to give support.

So this is an opportunity to get your beginner friends and S/O out there to play and have a good time. Kids are allowed so are grandparents 🙂

If any experienced riders want to join and lend support, that would be swell.

How long will we ride? depends on the group.

The name of the game is FUN!

Please bring helmets, water, a snack, and a sense of humor.
Crabby patties can stay home unless you think the riding will medicate you and help you to 🙂

I also want to add that if the group is willing, we can also try some "challenging" sections for those that want to step it up just a bit, with of course alternative routes for those that are not ready for that... yet.
***single riders are welcome!

And THIS is very important, remember that you ride at your own risk. Myself, this forum, or landowners are NOT responsible if you get an owwie!

***********************************
The First ride: Saturday July 28th. Wheels down at 9am. Route 27 lot at 6M.
Beginner paced. I have a few friends that have felt....well...nervous about riding at 6M, so I planned on this ride to help THEM. Relaxed pace focusing on just getting out there and having a good time. If anyone wants to walk over stuff that's cool. If they want to stop and try that log a couple times, that's cool too. No pressure to perform.

So if any of you have significant others who have been a little nervous about going out, please feel free to bring them. You dont even have to ride with them if you dont want to 😛

I'm new here, I would definitely try to make it. This is a good idea for someone who's new to mountain biking.

Looks like the weather is gonna be pretty bad and 6m doesn't drain well. When are you gonna make the go/no go call? Rain date?

It's supposed to rain hard tonight but not Friday (or overnight Friday). I am hoping the wife and I will be there so I can finally meet some MTBR folks.

*Looks for a babysitter*

everyone just bring a change of socks and shoes for any remainder moisture on the terrain lol i am looking forward to this cause i wanna ride 6M again and meet some new people lol

When will I make the call on go/no go? :hmmm: probably around 7 or 8 saturday morning, so be sure to check in here.
I will be stopping by to check the trails out friday evening.

The last time I rode there the day after a rain it was surprisingly good, I guess because it has been dry for so long 😕. Also depends on how hard the rain comes down, there were places that looked perfectly dry where there was thick canopy cover. As long as the majority of the trails are fine we will be riding. As for puddles...most of the damage on muddy trails occur when people either cannot control their speed or dont know how to brake without skidding. Slow it down and dont skid and you leave very little imprint, no more than someone with good hiking boots really. This past winter I showed my S/O other that riding in the mud without doing damage is possible if you do those 2 things. Problem is, most people dont 😡 and they go slipping and sliding and tear the trails up. Not good.

I am seriously considering this if a solo rider is OK. Is this parking lot the one for the Jersey Knights soccer?

Is this address from another thread correct for GPS? 2121 Lincoln Highway, Somerset NJ

Maybe I'll see you there.

Yep - that's the same lot...the trailhead is towards the left corner as you pull in.

Never did get a chance to check the trail last night 😱 but we did not get any rain overnight as far as I know. According to the weather people the rain is not due to start here till 1pm today or so.

So it is a GO (cheesburger, pizza, chimichunga, whatever)

will check in again later

Forgot to mention, solo riders are welcomed! but the speed demons can stay home for this one 🙂 unless EVERYONE wants to speed it up
