Are Shimano SH-M162 MTB shoes junk or is SINGLE SPEEDING killing my shoes?

I bought a pair of Shimano SH-M162 shoes in the middle of June. I ride a decent amount but not sure if my new shoes are junk or it's the switch to single speed that's killing them. In just 2 months I have warn holes completely through the outside and inside liner from rubbing the crank arms. This is right on the inside of the shoe where the heel is but up top. The threads wore through and the leather is flapping in the wind now. I know climbing is different on an SS but damn it I rode with cheap velcro Specialized shoes for 5 years with no problems besides some minor rubbing. Is it worth getting SIDI dominators or will they do the same thing? Dave

I do run my cleats all the way back(shoes as far forward as possible). I know it's not normal but i feel i get such a stronger stroke on the ss, no ankle/foot flex...and i need it ehen trying to crawl around hartshorne and cr in a tall gear. Are u referring yo the little pedal washers that come with bike?

i have the same shoe and have also been riding SS all season. besides the black foam part by the top part of the tongue ripping Ive had no issues with the shoe. every thing else is great and super comfortable. i really enjoy the larger toe box of shimanos . my left shoe on the inside by the heel also has a tendency to rub on my chain stay but besides wearing down my bike paint to the bare metal the shoe doesn't look any worse for wear.

I <3 specialized shoes!
Sport comfy and take ss beating.
(BTW, u may need cleat adjustment or pedal spacer if shoes are rubbing on cranks a lot.)

@woody knows something about ss' ing.

+1 on specialized shoes. Takes a beating and they stand behind their product. Another reason to have a solid relationship witj your lbs.

My original entry level velcro ones are still kickin around as my backup pair and still get use.

The spacer is something you might want to consider.

get the shimano xc61, I push my cleat as far back as possible also and have had no issues with ss, geared or road bike. yes they're more than double the price but you get what you pay for.
