Allaire Break-In’s

Hello all - hate to be the one who reports this but I parked in the lot near the Port-a-Potties along the fence today (Hospital Road main lot) - when I started to unload my bike a ranger stopped me and several others and advised us to park along the fence on Hospital Road.

He noted they have been experiencing car break ins - including the smashing of windows to gain entry into the vehicle. Further discussion notes that those parked along Hospital Road (while still inside the stone lot) had the best chance of coming out unscathed.

He also urged me to share the message with the community.

Watch out for odd people approaching you and asking questions of anything they can do to distract you. (1) they hope you forget to lock your car (2) they will keep your door ajar some slick way (3) possibly snap you fob code

I knew of two close friends where theifs let themselves in the car without breaking a window. This is at the canal at Amwell Road. Will repost at 6miles threads.

We have one of those "Flipper" devices at work that is used for testing. Scary stuff you can see out in the wild. Pro-tip... Keep your credit cards in a RF proof wallet (or use an anti-static bag), and don't use your fob to lock your car. Practice situational awareness. Don't leave stuff visible inside your car. Either stash it, or bring it with you. Also (keeping this on subject) if you see someone out of place and just hanging around keep an eye on them. This past spring I was at Allaire for a ride. There were only several cars in the lot but when I pulled in but there was a guy just hanging out. Looked totally out of place, and really sketchy. So instead immediately going wheels down I hung out in the lot, and worked on the bike making it a point to keep looking in the guys direction. My intuition was right because as soon as a couple of folks came back from their rides the guy got in his van and left. Yeah I might have lost some ride time, but I may have saved myself, and others from a break in.. People suck.
