Acadia and bar harbor info

The park loop and Cadillac mountain are great road bike rides if you're out early. They get busy with cars by mid-morning. VRBO is a great option for reasonable prices on a place to stay. We stayed at a place near Bar Harbor Campground when I was there a few years ago and it was a short walk from a stop for the free shuttle bus.

For me the lobster there is the best anywhere.
Because it ain't frozen. I'm sad Stewman's Lobster Pound became so huge, and therefore expensive. It was always my favorite when it was still small, but it's still a cool spot because of the location and deck views. Also, don't use the melted butter unless you're a noob.

Sorry my post about the lobster was off. Don’t get me wrong, the lobster was spectacular, but that shrimp came outta left field for us.

I don’t like shrimp, and ate a bucket of beer battered popcorn shrimp at a bar.

If time permits, stop off at Popham Beach in Phippsburg on the way up. Get there at low tide, walk out to Fox Island, drink a bottle of scotch and try to make it back before the tide strands you.
bring the road bikes. my wife and i saw acadia by bike and it was great. you can take the carriage roads or just stay on the roads and stop off at the random beaches along the way. we found it to be a pretty road bike friendly area.

and everyone talks about the lobster. its good, but the shrimp is was what really knocked our socks off.
My fix are the steamer clams, cooked in seaweed and ocean water. If you like sea urchin roe, they are typically harvested for the Japanese market, but some places will sell to you.

Lobsta Rolls, Bee Hive, and Cadillac Mtn. You'll absolutely love it up there

Just don't worry about the may cause death part.

I've been to Bar Harbor a couple of times. Neat place. Lobster Ice Cream (yes - really).

If you have any interest in old cars, there is the Seal Cove Auto Museum which has one of (if not "the") largest collection of brass-era Mercer automobiles assembled.

Has anyone mentioned paddling? Acadia and MDI are great places for paddling. We bring our rec/touring boats up and paddle Seal Cove Pond, Long Pond, Echo Lake, Little Long Pond, and sometimes other lakes and ponds. Northeast creek is a tidal creek that's pretty. For the more ambitious there's Somes Sound, which is tidal fjord and if you're into sea kayaking there's a number of outfitters in the area that can take you off the coast and to some islands.

Before you go you might want to get a copy of the book "A Walk in the Park" by Tom St. Germain. It's listing of basically every hike on the island with info, trail details, maps, etc. I think the author lives/lived in the area and tried to do every trail on the island. It's probably out of print now because I see a whole bunch of 1994 editions out there but there is a newer edition from 2000 or so. I would look for that one. I don't imagine many changes have taken place since the publication but there may be some. The last time we used it was 3 years ago and we did about 5 hikes with it and they were still accurate.

Eat lots of lobster!
First marriage I had a brother in law who potted the Jamestown bay in Rhode island, done that. Had New England style buried fire pit sea weed cooked lobster. Watched my man eat every single interior of a lobster. Even the green shit.

The green shit is the good shit. My favorite is the claws and leg soup.

Eating every bit of the lobster including the tomalley (green shit) is the only way to do it. I cringe every time I see people just eating the claws and tail. I want to take the rest of the lobster from them and eat it myself (after I scold them). I'm not a big fan of the eggs but I eat about half of them and give the rest to my wife, who loves them, so nothing is wasted.

Open system. Check your high School bio class. That said, knuckles and roe!!!
And clams are a gastropod. Literally stomach-foot. Raw!! Yummy!!
