2025 XC MTB Season Discussion Thread (Schedule in 1st Post)

Worked the jungle course today - some of it is marked - race is planning on using all of warthog this year.
up otter slide, but not onto Rhino (I cleared Rhino and R. Horn anyway) - then it uses some small section of Rhino to get on some double track (quad?)
coming back Ryno to tanks. I lost track after that goat/tiger cages? come out below lower chute, and then climb the chutes.

As usual, knowing the course, rather than depending on signage would be an advantage.

Overall, I think this is a tougher course than previous years.

I'm booked for Sunday 4/6 and therefore cant do Jungle. Anyone have the skinny on the Radsport MASS event? Obviously going to be a stacked field, but looking for trail conditions. Seems pan-flat with little more than 500 ft. of climbing each lap.

I did it last year. Pretty fun loop. Nothing very technical, a few rock gardens at the beginning that caused some flats. A few roughly cut sections to make the loop. A couple gradual climbs. A few fun twisty sections.

I think it would suit you well.

Keep an eye on the weather. Last year it rained in the days leading up to the race and it was sloppy in a few spots. During the race, it snowed, rained, and got very windy. There was some sun too. Quite chilly. Lots of punchy climbs and there is a few rocky, technical descents. If it's dry, it's a great mix of terrain for a XC course. I wouldn't consider it pan flat.

Looks like a half-inch of rain is predicted for Saturday in Mertztville. I'll make a game-time decision because I don't know if I feel like prep and cleanup for a mudder.

Thanks for the insight.

NJ State Championships / Jungle MTB Escape is this Sunday April 6.

Course is 100% marked. Barricade tape will be added in a few sections on Saturday and then checked Sunday AM.
Super fun course that's a bit easier than last year's course (no Goat climb) and similar to the 2023 course with some added singletrack.
(Not easy as it's Jungle after all and isn't that the challenge)

Course is well marked with tons of purple arrows plus orange survey tape..

Endurance 4 hr, 2.5 hr and Cat 1/Pro will do all Long Loops. (ie. straight at split intersection)
Cat 2 1 Short then 1 Long Loop (Course Marshalls at splits during this race)
Cat 3 2 Short Loops

As part of NJ State Championships we've partnered with USA Cycling
Annual License Promo - Up to $90 Off:

Looking at the forecast, it's raining now, rain tonight til Friday more rain Saturday through Sunday morning.
What's your plan will you run the race in muddy conditions or reschedule and use a rain date or cancel ?

Yes Sunday’s race is on.

Anyone that’s ridden and worked on the Jungle trails knows that they drain very well thanks to all the rock there. We’ve logged 60 man hours prepping the trails including hours today and the trails are in great shape.

Trails were already drying out his afternoon and continue with great weather tomorrow. In the constant ebb and flow we’ll get some rain Saturday but it’s not looking like a major storm.

We’ll be out in course Saturday and make any necessary adjustments which likely will mean shortening the Warthog section as that’s the one area that’s pretty flat and can have drainage issues. Beyond the work already done (probably 1000 sticks and branches cleared) we’ll be back out next week to remediate whatever is needed.

Can confirm, super fun & hard at the same time. Some might say it rocked - others might say that they got rocked.
I got manhandled by the course (time card can confirm). Partially my poor tire selection, partially my poor skill set. Partially losing my rear brake in the second lap....
