2024 Lawn yard thread

It’s over for the front yard, the backyard is holding tuff and will green back up if we get a bit of rain.

My Tanaka bit the dust so looking for a replacement. Thinking battery now and eventually other pieces. What's good, what's not? Not looking to spend a ton, how's Ego, Ryobi, Greenworks, Worx...PXL_20240704_150038955.jpg

Stihl....
Kombi Head, string trimmer, hedge trimmer, pole saw attachments,
then small chainsaw - all on the same battery.
they are also talking about doing a power station with a battery or two.

Are you bought into a battery platform already?

I am all in on EGO for lawn stuff but if I was doing just smaller items like trimmers I would have maybe gone Ryobi as I also have that platform.

Most of those options are pretty good, just easier to not have a ton of battery options.

I would stay away from a no name in case you need batteries or other tools later on.

I'm in the Ryobi ecosystem and have been happy with the performance. The 40v equipment is worth the extra coin compared to the 18v. They have multiple attachments to the battery-handle-unit for the string trimmer like pole saw, edger, snow thrower (works great - I managed to avoid purchasing a real snow blower this year). The 40v mower works well if that's a potential future concern.

No allegiance, my tools are Rigid so open to anything which like you said will be around and has a decent range of products

Die crabgrass die….finally taking the fight to crabgrass. I always put halts down once if not twice in the spring. But I always seam to get a breakout by mid summer, it’s gotten worse the past few years. So I got some Tenacity herbicide from Amazon, it will only kill the crabgrass and not the good turf, plus you can seed right after the crabgrass is gone.

Let us know how it works out. CG seems worst this summer than ever since we haven't had steady rain for the good grasses

Sure that's crab grass? Might be Dallisgrass which is not susceptible to pre-emergent chemicals as its a grass...

You are cutting your grass too low. Keeping a lawn at this height requires a lot of maintenance to keep it thick, green and weed free ( irrigation, pesticide application, more fertilizer). Unfortunately this is your typical homeowner lawn.

Raise your mower up to as high as it will go and only cut it when it grows. Overseed in the fall with a drought tolerant seed variety. I'm not saying this will produce a weed free lawn, but you will need much less pesticides and N, which is better for ecosystem.

Thanks for the advice but my mower, Honda HR215, is set to highest setting.

Interesting, I’ll do a little due diligence, but believe its crabgrass, because it does not show up in spring, rather in mid/end of summer.
