2024 Garden Thread

Yup, I'm gonna call this year a win for matoes. Much better for me than last year.

But, what's really unheard of is I'm still getting cucumbers this late in the season. One or two every few days from the Unagis on the deck and showing no sign of stopping. It's been so successful I think that's all I'm gonna do for cukes next year.

This one goes to 11.

That's the story, morning glory.

Where'd you get the plants or seeds for the cucs. They're in your sunroom?

I bought them from Johnny's. Unagis are a green house variety, so they don't need pollination to fruit. They're on a covered deck. Not insulated but has windows. Gets minimal sun, maybe 2 - 3 hours, so I wasn't sure it would work.

I attached a handy list of green house cuke varieties. I've grown Picolinos before and they are good producers. Tried Unagis this year and they're good too.

Pulled the ginger too early - gotta wait until the stalk turns brown.
Plenty more in there!

Beans still growing strong though the cherries appear to be just about done. First year they didn't split the whole season. Haven't paid much attention to the frequency of rain this year, the garden was mostly unattended this year

You did it two days in a row? Takes a little longer than that...

the first pull was too early - thought it was after flowering. It is after the stalk turns.
It is still woody, without the strong ginger taste. it smells like ginger tho

This rose was planted last end of summer/early fall, probably 2’ tall and it thrived this year. I dead headed it multiple times and and tried to control the shape a bit. The last month it exploded and is now 6’ tall. What do i do for this after this bloom is finished? Ive read conflicting things online from cut it down low to just prune how i have been (cutting 3 leaf sets down from the flower). Thoughts?

Depends on the variety. Looks like a florabunda bush?

Morning Glory doesn't know it's Nov 2.

Pretty much wrapping it up today with the garden stuff. We are sure to have a hard frost soon, right?

Got the rest of the butternuts, matoes, peppers, poblanos, and eggplant.

Picked some green tomatoes that I guess I'll try to ripen inside.

Here are photos of other stuff picked over the last couple weeks, going back to Oct 19.
