Allamuchy North Conditions

🤦🏼‍♂️

Where most of us park. New one near the last one I reported that hit the sign board and gate.

I don't have a saw that big, but might be able to convince it to pivot with a winch and snatch block. Is there a strong anchor tree out of frame to the right?

I wouldn’t mess with it. It’s a job for a loader or TLB. And I’m one to want to push limits. Not worth it.

I do need some type of location pin though. Not sure where it’s at.
Its here. I dont know how to post a location pin but its up tranquility farms lane which is off of 517. Its up just past the turn to the lot. I looked at it yesterday driving by. Its half rotted but it is really big as seen. Cutting it is one thing. Moving the pieces is problem #2. Coming up that road is icy and theres a big log from before still partially sticking into the road. I had cut it partially back. Someone else cut some more but you still have to sneak by it and its icy all they way through there.
If you know someone with equipment great. If no one else gives it a go ill probably give it a try chipping away at them after things warm and melt a bit this week.

Thats the spot. Would be great if Tranquility Farm would send a tractor over to move it.
If anyone is looking for firewood youll have the mother load right there.

It's still there as of yesterday. It's partially cut up, but the current opening is too small for cars to squeeze by.
While hiking i ran into this tree

Sadly, there were more but I couldn’t stop to get them all. Friggin middle is pretty trashed and Atleast two big ones and tons of small stuff. Is that trail still ridden? It doesn’t really look like it.

I probably ride mooch more then any of the 3 but since population found Stephens the migration moved over to there. The other point is if your not familiar with North, well good luck finding your way out 🤣 honestly I'm happy to never see other people and that is what makes North special to me. 10 years ago that was Stephens, sigh 😔 now not so much...

I gave up on reporting blowdowns in Mooch the last few months. I believe there are dozens down, and at this point the park needs a full sweep with the saw.

Adding to what you've heard already...This question could apply to any trail at Mooch. Take a look at all of the videos posted over the last 10 years on mainstream social media. None of them look like the trails at Mooch. None of them look like most trails in NJ but Mooch is far away from what the popular trails look like. I still love it. You can ride for three hours and not see another soul.

truth be told...the ones that look ridden least are the ones I like the most.

General response to the comments about trees down....as one of the guys who tries to get after trees, I've been slacking...my time availability is spotty and weather conditions when I have had time hasn't been friendly recently lol. Hoping to get after some soon now that the ice is gone. The tree post are appreciated! I'll post if I actually do something lol.

I hear you. It's tough with the weather, daylight savings, etc. I'm trying to keep up with Stephens and Deer Park while Ed is out. I consider Mooch extra credit at this point that will be hard to do until we reset the clocks in March.

And of course every ride can't be TM. Be great if we could recruit a few more sawyers for help at these 3 parks. The blowdowns have been consistently frequent the last few years.

I dig mooch for the same reasons as a lot of you apparently. Isolated riding, can be out for hours without seeing anyone, the unmarked trails seem to be the best trails and very…I’ll say primitive, old school trail system that will beat you up.
A lot of my crew who are from Pa hate it because they’ve gotten used to groomed enduro type stuff. I hope mooch never becomes that.

There are a couple reasons to me that Mooch doesn't get much attention these days.

1. It's "hard". The riding is generally a notch or 2 above Stephens in both cardio and technical ability requirements.
2. Navigation is tough. The trails aren't blazed/marked well. Trailforks is a mess of "unblazed". It's easy to hop in Trailforks for most other parks and figure something out, Mooch is mure more obscure.

I LOVE riding Mooch...but for the 2 reasons above I just don't very much.
