My TV is failing like Windows XP, who's been in the market for new?

I’ve used LG at home for like 10 years. Also LG for work conference rooms, and considering a bigger LG for the main viewing room.

I need to figure out this loud-music-can’t-hear-the-voices-problem before dumping cash on a new TV.

Amusing... I'm still limping along a 45" Visio I bought back in early 2009 to watch the Superbowl. I then installed a digital antenna in my attic. The antenna stopped working a few years ago. The audio on the TV crapped out a couple of years ago, so I finally replaced the stereo system I've had since 1988 with a Sony A/V receiver...

I pretty much only use the TV as an HDMI monitor from my laptop, which is what I use for streaming YouTube and other services. I used to plug it directly into the TV, but now have to go through the receiver first. I also have a bluray DVD player connected to the receiver, although it's rarely used. I've tried using the streaming browser on the TV but it is so effing clunky to use that I prefer to use the computer. Someday I'll replace the laptop with a mini-PC and a wireless keyboard & mouse.

A bit of a luddite set-up, but it works for me.

A sound bar that runs whatever the tv can do and has a voice enhance mode. I'll try to poke around later. If the tv has optical out it helps

This was important to me when I picked the new receiver. New glasses are coming tho.

I like Vizio. The 43" Toshiba second screen is getting glitchy, so Bezos is delivering a new one Wednesday for 60% less than 8 years ago.

I grabbed this used mini PC and upgraded the ssd to 1TB. Runs great.



Had wireless k&m on hand

Is optical-out even available today? We had it in our 2005 Plasma TV. Apple TV used to have it to. I’m pretty sure I chucked my optical stuff before the move 🤷‍♂️

my TV has a port that takes a dongle for optical out. It is also the s.center-in (son'y thing) for putting voice through the TV speakers to "raise it" above the center speaker.

It is there for receivers/soundbars that don't do eARC

I’ll have to look into raising voice level options. I think LG now offers it. Our TV stands on a console table so a sound bar is a tough fit.
