I don't have a Frank Origin Story. I have no idea when we met. It was a few years ago, many years ago. Probably like 15.
At some point in the MTBNJ race promotion cycle we considered a race at Allaire. Back "in the day" there had been races there, though this is before my time. I called Frank and we spoke about it. He said that we could do whatever we wanted, and the permit was like $35 back then to hold an event. I clarified that no, I didn't want to know what the technical details were, but if YOU were ok with it, as in YOU Frank. He said he would prefer we did not have a race there as a heavy rider load on a bad weather day could really make a disaster of what they had built over all the years.
We dropped it, and MTBNJ never considered doing a race there again. I think this is a time when people had more respect for each other. Frank said he would prefer we didn't. So we didn't. End of story. Even as the times get less cordial in 2025, Frank was always the same guy he was from the day I met him. He called me last year to apologize for making a very strong statement on the board. He was always a stand-up guy. Even when he was laying down in the hospital bed.
He will be missed. But not forgotten. No chance of that.
Also - I think Frank would respond to the idea of renaming the Hospital Road Lot in his honor by saying, "It's already named after my ordeal."
