Pretty much. Just remember that when the sun is up, even if it’s below freezing, you’ll get a lot of melt in the open areas. If it’s overcast and frozen you’re ok. But the sun can really heat things up, even if sub-freezing. Unless it’s freaking seriously cold out.

If we get a spell of many days in a row of above freezing, generally you’re good in the afternoon. But if it freezes overnight and warms up, it’s gets sloppy as hell.

It only takes one ride where you end up with 75lbs of mud caked to your bike to learn the truth of FREEZE/THAW.

Don't have my own pics, but this is from an NC MTB site. As you can see, bike will likely need more than one part replaced or rebuilt

We are out digging today, and I saw a few people on the trail… Their bikes did not look muddy. I was kind of surprised.

It’s not gonna go below freezing tonight, so tomorrow could actually be very very good. Potentially the last time it will be first sometime.

Tried just now and it’s a little muddy for us. This is 10 min of riding from Jacques lot (pic below). We’re heading somewhere a bit sandier. Bummer

I knew it!! I was riding through massive mud puddles on the canal on the way there and bypassed 6-mile.

Ended up at Perrineville. Not sandy, I suppose, but very good conditions today. I heard good things and the new trail work is amazing

I almost tried out Perrineville a couple weeks back. How many miles did you do total? What other trail system would you say is similiar?

It should be ok since we’ll only be at 32* for a few hours just before sun up.

Started yesterday at 7:30am w temps at 32 or so… trails were crispy but started softening up when i finished up at 10… got a good ride in

Conditions this morning at canal lot.
If it looks like this turn around and go ride the canal towpath instead.

I can’t imagine anyone would think Six Mile is even worth trying right now. If you’re new to biking I get it. But anyone who’s been around more than a minute should know it’s not gonna be great right now.
