What I worked on before going on furlough, AMG GT-S body harness replacement due to water damage, owner left the top open View attachment 128257View attachment 128258View attachment 128259View attachment 128260View attachment 128261View attachment 128262

So what is the ownership cost on one of these? Is the maintenance ridiculous, any expensive quirks to these cars, or is it just general change the oil, brakes, etc.? Is it $$$$ to change that DCT transmission fluid? I realize the motor is basically the same 4.0 as in every other AMG car.

Kinda makes me wish I put something a little lumpier in the Vette. Very nice.? What do think the HP is on that now?
So I built this engine ~2001ish, when i took the car all apart to restore it it maybe had like 3-4000 miles on it...so I just stripped it down to the long block, fixed some leaking gaskets (oil pan, timing case cover), primed/painted it. So it shouldn't be any different....I had it dyno'd one time and that was a disaster...certain speed shop in Rockaway...I had to work that day so i dropped the car off and he was going to dyno it, play with the carb. He ended up changing shit that I didnt ask him to do with calling me first...like he decided to change the plugs coil and wires, fwe other things...that annoyed me that he didnt call me first, but ok...then he decided to take my car out on the street and beat on (which I had told him by no means did I want him driving it)...his fat ass broke my drivers seat.....In the end it dyno'd 346 at the wheels. That night I took it up to island and it was running slower than the week before. A friend and I hooked up a timing light and he had the timing jacked to outer space...once we fixed that, the car picked up 3-4mph....So goddam did that guy do some SHIT work and he broke the car on top of everything. Anyway, if it made 346 on that dyno, im guessing it maybe it 360-maybe 370 on a few days when the car ran 110-111mph on sunoco GT 100 octane.

Its funny now how cars dont need to sounds like that anymore with variable cam/valve timing...I mean the lopey idle is really a bi-product of trying to improve the performance in other parts of the RPM range at the expense of how the car idles....But people love it so much they hire tuners to make modern cars idle rough.....which is kinda funny.

Service is reasonable, fluids is pretty much the same as any other Mercedes, trans service is just slightly higher due to the fluid type and labor involved but nothing crazy, for front pads and rotors(not carbon) we talking about $2k, a lot cheaper and more reliable to maintain than any other exotic car, specially those exotic cars that a 24k mile service will run you close to $8k

So what kind of quarter time is that?

Yeah, the new Vette is so effortless it's crazy. Coming from driving the M3, I was amazed at how fast the Vette is. It's amazing not having driven in anything new in years, I was like why would you even buy a 460 hp car when you can get a 650hp Z06 for not that much more? Now I know. Cars that can run close to 12 sec and get close to 25 MPG commuting is nuts. My '70 Chevelle SS396 got about 6MPG, and I had to change the plugs every 10K along with adjusting the dual-points (not to mention adjusting the valves). P.S. that Big Block ate starters too, I got so good I had a spare in the trunk and could change it in the parking lot like it was a normal starting procedure. 😛

I wonder how well these high 600, 700+ HP cars keep the tires from frying. I know I need new tires on mine but a redline shift from 1st to 2nd, the tires cut loose every time

My best time with it was a 12.80 @ 111....That was with an open rear and these tiny 225/50-15 drag radials I borrowed from a friend...I still couldnt get it to hook up to well, but I wasnt going to buy full slicks....I just wanted to run a 12 with it and break 110mph...once I did that (took me about a 6 weeks of playing with it) I never took the car back...

That's one reason the Corvette went mid-engine.
"We knew we were in trouble way back in the [sixth] generation when we started doing a ZR1. We had a 638-horsepower engine and it wasn’t until the eve of production—and only because of the super-sticky Michelin tires—that were were quicker from zero-to-60 than the 505-hp Z06. So, we had aspirations for higher performance, but we were reaching the limit of the architecture."

This will make your head spin: with the DSG and a turbo from the GTI (smaller than the one I put in my car), a guy with an AWD Golf Sportwagen has turned 12.3@111 (timed with Dragy). That's 2001 Porsche 911TT quick.

Everyone was out cruising today - saw a white Ferrari, at least 6 vettes cruising together, a group of bimmers, a threesome led by a green McLaren and included a metallic gold GTR, saw a white with blue stripes GT350. Everyone except @GSTim ! ?

You needed to cruise by my hood. I was working on the C3 all day getting it ready for Craigslist. I took it out for a quick run a few minutes ago.
