Car-spotting thread

I came up with Van-bourgini one day (for the wifes Honda Odyssey) when the kids were little and they still crack up.

Then again the 2019 I have now is a 9 speed trans with paddle shifters and has so much torque just a blip of the gas can easily break the tires loose. Im not allowed to drive that vehicle that much I wonder why.

You’ve got a sweet build. Wagons rule. I wish the US market hadn’t abandoned them, along with manual transmissions no less. Speaking of wives and wagons, when I bought my red on orange V70R back in 03 mine found it hilarious that I defended the bold color choice by drawing a parallel to Ferraris.

Yup, dudes who own (owned) wagons are weirdos.

For those waiting in anticipation 🙄 my VW Sportwagen has been on the road since Sunday. I think I overdid it. 🙂 There is nobody home until 3000rpm. It never hits big, just keeps accelerating right to 7000rpm while the original turbo was signing off by 5000. With the original turbo and an aftermarket tune, it hit 1bar of boost at 2000rpm. Now it's at 0.2bar. Which is less. Old peak was 1.2. New is 1.4 but it carries that past 6000rpm.
Seems like your wastegate needs tuning

Atacama!

As it happens, I bought the Sportwagen because I was sick of fixing my V70R. I replaced the bevel drive just in time for the haldex electronics to go so crazy the dashboard shut down. And it needs struts/shocks. And the a rear wheel bearing is howling. What finally pushed me over the edge was rust poking out in two spots. No mas. I still have it 7 months later. Initially, because lazy. Now I'm just waiting for things to quiet down before I sell it.

Because of the low boost at 2k? That's just the breaks with a little motor and a relatively big turbo. I set the wastegate using an app (OBDeleven or VCDS for VW nerds) when I installed it.

A guy on another group shared a log from the crazy 'hybrid' turbo on his car. It's the same basic turbo with a reworked compressor section. He's at AMBIENT pressure at 2500rpm! Holy crap. I'm making about 0.6 at the same point. His turbo also supports up to 500whp but I can't imagine it's much fun to drive.

i was lucky to get out before the usual R issues started, but then again, i also sold mine with under 35k miles on it. Fun cars that could've been so much better if Volvo didn't cheap out on the build. Semi-decent on track as well.

Yep I felt the same way. Rubber strut mounts that turned into hockey pucks after 25k miles made for some frustrating clunkiness in an otherwise great 4c suspension system. Keeping that Atacama in good shape was tough. Very susceptible to wear even with oceans of Lexol. Last straw for me was having the angle gear go on me 5k miles after warranty expired and despite the raft of reports that this was a common issue Volvo refused to do anything about it. Shame, it was a great concept but average in execution.

Dee's lease was up on her 2017 Jetta. She ended up purchasing a new, leftover 2019 Jetta for $16,034 after discounts and rebates plus 0% for 72 months. 6Y/72K B2B warranty, too! 35% tint added this past weeknd and 17-inch black wheels with some 225/50 tires coming soon.

the wagon is dead. Long live the wagon.

@mfennell nice work on the sportswagen. Seems like a great combo of fun and utility. Wood drive. sad there are so few actual wagons on the market.

i miss nothing about my V90 AWD except the seats. Happy to have dumped it before then bevel gear went.

What kind of 2 post lift you have there? I'd like to get one at some point, just gotta figure if it all fits.
bendpack md-6xp....looks this this without the corvette on it 🙂....goes up about 50inches high, so its perfect height to work on anything wheel/suspension level while standing...or sitting under it on my little rolling stool....I went this route bc its portable and you dont have to secure it to the floor...so when the car is done, I plan on moving it to the middle of my garage so i dont need to drive over it or in between it forever
