This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

True... but just wondering if that is the socially responsible thing to do considering the heavy breathing of exercise.
I guess at least at the lot?

It's encouraged but not required. I would almost argue that wearing a mask during heavy exercise could be a health risk.

Masks a trail head parking aren't ridiculous but getting close. While you get ready to go....OK possible. Coming back while cooling down and possible breathing hard...yeah, that's would be an unrealistic expectation. I'm not (and I don't expect anyone else to) stop 1/4 mile from the lot, fish out a mask from my pack and try to hyperventilate through that sucker for the last bit.
At a certain point it has to boil down to this.
- Don't go to places like this if you are uncomfortable with it
- Feel free to leave if you don't feel comfortable with the scene
- If you do go, and stay, keep your respectful distance from people for their sake and yours. Take another short loop even if you need to wait out a few parking lot folks.

I don’t disagree with you, however every kit, baggy, Lycra, has some kind of pocket. It would take a few second to pull out a mask and put it on.

Im expecting the parks to be packed. Not shoulder to shoulder packed but it wouldnt surprise me if i see and pass by more ppl than i would have in normal times.

Btw... masks... other than N95 and better, is not about protecting you... its about protecting others from you. At the end of the day, we know very little about cv19. It may seem "ridiculous" but personally, i wouldnt mind being inconvenienced a bit to protect my neighbors.

No disagreement with you or @stb222 on intent. Eventually though it becomes making the right choice individually. I may agree with you and change my mind and wear one. But you know there are plenty of clueless folks out there that we can't have a rational discussion with. Those folks will always be there. Pick and choose your approach. Every place I ride, I know how I can avoid the main parking lot. Not always that simple but it should be an option. Either way.....this aspect reminds me of this scene from the Naked Gun. Where does sarcasm and reality meet? I don't know but we are closer than before haha.

NICA in NJ is cancelled for 2020.
But masks like likely be in the mix morning forward. Still kinda hopeful for PA. Since you can only race in one league per race year, wonder how many NJ people will jump to PA for a year?

yeah but unfortunately Covid lawsuits are gonna become a thing. I'm not NICA involved but I sure can't blame those good hearted volunteers who could be crushed by litigation (win or lose). No good deed goes unpunished is a term I like to use. It only takes one.

A student also needs agreement between the leagues to cross state/league lines. With all of the unknowns we are facing I do not see crossing the river being a viable option for our families this fall.

I sweat like a pig. For me putting something over my nose that has been around my neck for a couple hours of riding would be like subjecting myself to waterboarding. ?

I hear you. I have a box of buffs leftover from a previous event, that’s what I wear and it’s hard to even notice when not pulled up.

A bandanna type mask works well.
On my rides I would leave it over my mouth so my exhaling would be diffused but I could still breath in through my nose and when I came across other people I would slip it over my nose too.

I see this argument, but can anyone logically explain to me why both parties have to wear a mask. All I hear is that its "to protect others" however, if "others" want to be protected, why can't they just wear their own mask. Why does it take two masks to protect.

If you are not infected... a mask, less than N95, is no use to you. But the pt is... you can be asymptomatic.

it also reminds you not to touch your face.

besides, we should all just get used to wearing them from now on. 😉

Think this type of community learning is the origin of bowing, rather than shaking hands or kissing?
I didn't look it up, but a 5,000+ year old civilization may have some surprises in their customs.
