This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

Got my stimulus check direct deposited today, too bad I can't go out on a rager and blow it all.

So just as an interesting data point, my grandmother went to the hospital about two weeks ago and tested positive for the coronavirus. She's 87, diabetic, smoked her whole life, is mostly wheelchair bound, and generally speaking, is not in great health. She was in the hospital not doing well for the first few days, then was doing a bit better, and she has since been released to a rehab facility. She was never put on a ventilator.

Glad to hear she's doing better.

so the good news is that at 51, NY data is showing between 0.2% and 0.4% mortality, and as Rick pointed out, 86% of those cases have a
co-morbidity. I still don't like spinning the wheel at 1 in 5000, but I'm sure i'd go sit in an outside venue with adequate spacing and listen
to some music, or get together with a few people and fire up the grill. A little normal would be nice!

Remember, these mortality rates are preliminary and will go down. We still have no idea on the prevalence of asymptomatic cases. They are doing a pilot study in Telluride, CO - preliminary results show at least 1% testing positive. That much smaller study on NYC pregnant women found 12%. If 1% of the US population had asymptomatic covid, that means there are/were ~ 4 million cases here, which drops our overall death rate to less than 1%

Also, NIH is conducting a larger study of 10,000 across the country. I sent an email to volunteer but it's likely filled already

Good for her, she’s got some great genes. Can you imagine what kind of shape she’d be in, if she hadn’t smoked and worked out?!
Hopefully, you have a lot of Her’s. You’ll live to be 115. you just may need to change your retirement strategy.

My mother in-law has been sick for 10days had a test and it was negative.
She’s had all the symptoms, cough , fatigue and a fever which was low never over 101. We all thought for sure she had it but luckily she doesn’t.

Glad she doesn't definitely a concerning time for any cold. Hopefully she recovers quickly

There are false negative test(1in 3 as per nrp) if the opportunity presents its self for retesting she should take it

I do hope your MIL is feeling better.

My son had similar symptoms for 13 days - fever, fatigue, body aches, cough, aching ribs from coughing, etc. He was tested on Day 11, the results of which came back negative. Every doctor and medical professional that we have spoken with believe that despite the results, he was COVID positive. It seems as if 30-35% of tests are false negatives, and there are stories like Nick Cordero who tested positive after 2 negative results.

I am not sure what would have been harder for us to deal with emotionally - if he tested positive on Day 3 or the uncertainty of the negative on Day 11. We will not know for sure until there is accurate antibody screening available. All that being said, he was 4 days fever free on Easter Sunday. While that is behind us, it will take him a long to to recover physically and mentally from this experience.

Have you ever been to Telluride? Great skiing but not really representative of any major city.

Glad he’s okay. ?

What are we SUPPOSED to be spending the stimulus money on? Wait until the economy reopens and spend it on local businesses? I wish I could, but oddly enough, the check is exactly what I need to take a three month long course.

Nope but it sounds like it's in the middle of nowhere. San Miguel County has a similar prevalence (based on positive test results) to the rest of Colorado. That's the point - if there is a 1-2% asymptomatic infection rate there - it could be much higher in places like NY and NJ.

wouldn't they just scale up based on number of cases with symptoms?
i'm not sure the demographic is the same - but they got people for that!

Anyone know what I can do with my dependant care fsa? I'm about to start an LLC in Delaware for Daddy day care and invoice myself

Wondering if our kids go to the same place. I'm still paying since they're not closed, even though she hasn't been there in a few weeks. Pretty much what we have to do so she has a spot to go back to.
