why change to a direct mount crankset?

currently have xtr cranks which are too fancy for me. Considering swapping to X1 cranks as a replacement. Besides able to go really low what are the benefits of direct mount chain rings? Seems like it may be more difficult to get a desired chain line. Will likely go with a 32NW chainring regardless of type.

Lower weight because no spider. More surface area/less points of failure than 4 bolts.

Bling/cleaner look. An excuse to "upgrade". Being married to a brand of chainring.

With that said I have RF cinch on my bikes. Ran a 28T once for fun.

I don't understand what you mean by too fancy? Always ride the best parts that you can buy/scrounge/steal, period. Why would you switch?

and the RF cranks are compatible to shimano, correct? Have a handsome CK BB I'd like to keep.

plan on selling the entire xtr drive and pop in XO, figured to switch the cranks while in the swap phase. going 1x10 and don't need the triple anyway with for a crank which has less than 50 miles. Could also get ahead and recoup some cash from the project.

If you are going to go direct drive but want to be able to switch out chain rings easily. Look at wolf tooth camo system. You don't have to pull the crank to get the ring off and different sizes are cheaper than a new direct drive

Not sure this is much of a benefit over XTR cranks...but with my hollowgrams for example..The XX spider was alloy and any good hit on the chain ring could knock it out of true. The direct mount rings have been much stronger in my experience. Really nice not having to deal with chain ring bolts also

Don't count on being able to sell a set of triple ring cranks and come out ahead financially. It's not like you are the first to have this idea. Go research how much these XTR cranks actually sell for on the used market before committing.

DM means no power meter too. Though I suspect almost everyone around here doesn't give AF about wattzzzzzz.
