Does a man need to pack a hospital bag?

Snacks, Gatorade, Chargers, Contact Lenses, Change of clothes (because you will probably encounter bodily fluids). A nice touch would be a labor & delivery playlist on your phone.... I'm sure you can think of a few good songs to lighten the mood.

car seat! car seat! car seat! you don't know how many dads i saw in the parking deck trying to figure the car seat out, or just get it in the car. good luck!

Yeah, good one. I think this falls into the "rigger" job category.

I vividly remember the feeling like I was stealing a child when I walked out of the hospital with Thing 1 in the child seat.Like, "you mean they just let me walk out of here with this thing and put it in my car?" For liability reasons (I assume) nobody from the hospital is allowed to help with car seat installation.

This! We were early and had to phone a friend to bring us the car seat so we could set it up in the parking lot.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to bring some fresh undies, toothbrush, that kinda stuff.

You'll be really busy with texts and phone calls. Enjoy that part, it's pretty fun.

We actually had to have a car seat inspection at our hospital before we were allowed to leave. Some lady came out and made sure it was properly installed. It was. Kinda.

This reminds me of how awesome my daughters homebirth was. So happy to never set foot in a hospital. Just a reminder that this is always a valid choice.

Best of luck.

Very valid. Our first was at Motown the second two were at our house! So much better for all involved.

Another thing... Don't have the baby close to midnight because that will still count as day 1 and I believe two days are covered. Our second came along much easier (says the dad - LOL)... arrived at the hospital 10:45 PM and little dude man showed up at 11:55.

Oh one more thing...
During labor/delivery/recovery, you are responsible for advocating on behalf of your wife.
She might murmur something about wanting apple juice - your job is to FUCKING MAKE SURE SHE GETS APPLE JUICE.

i learned this quickly - be a pain in the ass, especially for your wife. if you feel you are being ignored when you guys need something - get someone's attention.

The nurses were incredible during our stay as well. After delivery Kayla wanted nothing to do with ice chips. Without us even asking, a nurse made her a mocktail from the random waiting room juices. Totally on point.

@Delish, I can totally relate to the baby stealing thing. No car seat check, no real instructions. Walking out into the world for the first time was a trip. I remember looking around and thinking, "ok, i guess we can just go home".

I had a great experience at the hospital with both kids. I had an acceptable couch/pull out thing to sleep on. Nurses we super nice and were always checking in on us. And after the delivery there was an army of them scrubbing the room in what seemed like seconds.

Which hospitals did you guys go to?
