Making time to play with myself

I recall a long time ago when I saw guys running trails that could be ridden. Thinking to myself, "WTF? This is mountain biking. You're supposed to ride!" After getting beat by those guys a few times I realized, "This is racing. No bonuses are given to those that ride the rough stuff." If you can run it faster than you can ride it...you should be sprinting!!!
.

I remember at your skills course at KVSP last summer during the post-course ride Robin saying the same thing - during a race if she can run a section faster than riding it, she'll run it. Maybe my tech trail running experience would come in handy - I guess I should try a race one of these days

you heading down to fair hill this weekend? its the exact opposite of allamuchy 😛

I don't have any intentions on hitting that race. However, I will look into it. I remember watching a youtube video of it and it looked like it had a long fireroad in the beginning followed by singletrack and some moderate climbing three quarters of the way in.

It will be perfect for that roadie sandbagger that pipped him for 2nd in the first race of the season.

Cmon Kev, if you're going to be funny - get the facts straight... The guy who won March Madness was the roadie who I called a sandbagger. And for the record, I take that back calling him a sandbagger - he is really fast on the flats. He ended up 3rd at Mooch 🙂. The guy who nipped second from me is registered for Far Hills.

@pooriggy - Wayway... There is a good chance I'll race that one.... Last year I ran the climb after the stream crossing because there were three guys bottled up after the stream and there was no room to ride it. So I ran the hill and passed all three of them as they walked the hill. In doing so, we had a great laugh talking about beer. Turned out to be a good move as it set me up to catch and pass a couple more which resulted in a second place finish.

this is wear it gets sticky, if you beat a SB, where does that leave you? it's a hard and awkward lesson to learn, don't say we didn't try and help ya 😉

So - Does anyone recall Utah's candid advice to one of my blog entries leading up to the March Mayhem race? He said - "Sandbaggers, always Sandbaggers!" in reference to one of the many funny excuses for not winning.. Where was criticism on that one? Crickets.... My March Mayhem write up included "Sandbagger" as a tongue and cheek way to tie into his advice of me not winning + ties into some inside jokes between Ron and I (the latter you wouldn't get but it wasn't meant for you to get - it was meant for Ron to read and laugh).

There are two of you that took the "sandbagger" reference literally and decided to publicly call me out on it. One of you two took the time to txt me about it which I appreciate - pulling me aside and letting me know I may have stepped out of line, in my opinion, is the preferred way to address it. "Punish in private, Praise in public!"

Additionally, during the March Mayhem race, Ron ("Sandbagger") and I had a pretty great battle and laugh about him being a roadie sandbagger and even after the race, as we were swapping race recaps, I jokingly called him a sandbagger to his face - we both laughed it off - BECAUSE IT WAS A JOKE and a compliment to how strong he was. There is no doubt he was way stronger on the flats than me.. He was also drafting me every chance he could and that was the battle he an I had. I was trying to keep him off my ass - in doing so, we gapped the rest of the field by a huge margin. During the cat and mouse battle, I was like, "stop drafting me" and he responded "i'm a roadie, what did you expect?".. Chuckle Chuckle, Laugh Laugh, back to racing hard...

There is a little more history between Ron and I, at Mountain Creek when he wrecked on a rock right in front of me and then me trying steal his nachos at the lodge after the race. So me and Ron are cool... I was delighted for him to tell me that he drank too much beer the day before Mooch and wouldn't be much of a threat - I joked and said B.S.... I know his mind games... I envision this year, Ron and I battling alot and I hope so because it is fun as hell. If he beats me, I'm calling him a roadie sandbagger. If I beat him, he can call me what he wants, I really don't care cause at the end of the day, its just words and doesn't change anything with the race.

So - I may have made the "sandbagger" statement but it was made out of jest and nothing really serious behind it. Just like when I came around to the lodge at Mooch from lap 1 to lap 2 and @The Heckler called me a sandbagger. I knew he was just heckling... not more, nothing less...

Jeez - this sandbagger thing reminds of the character Francis in the movie Stripes. "Lighten Up Francis".

Some of you guys rather focus on the smallest BS and make a big deal out of it than actually seeing the entire picture but like I said in the Negative people thread - I will decipher your negative comments as a backwards ass way to give advice. Queue - Pearl's awesome "over the head" gif.

Focusing on the smallest BS is what the internet is all about bro🙂
Mike, I think you're over thinking this. Calling someone a sandbagger after a race on a cycling forum is gonna throw up a red flag, this applies to anyone, not just you. You ain't the first guy to do this and won't be the last. What you meant and what people percieve you meant can be two different things. If you want to avoid controversy don't call anyone a sandbagger on the internets. If you want a lot of attention call people who beat you in a race sandbaggers.

Oh dont sweat it man, you just need to learn the art of excuse making....Remember terms like "blew up" "bonked" "burped air"...Remember you were always leading the race when your chain snapped or you ran over a discarded pack of razor blades.....So HAD that tire not flatted...it would have been an easy win. Work and family stress also make for crappy race results, so dont be afraid to blame them. Oh and sandbaggers! remember the sandbaggers!🙂

Ok, now it went from two, now three people on the sandbagger bandwagon... Like a pack of wolves....

I appreciate the positive feedback? Big thumbs up... Sarcasm

okay mike, lets take a deep breath here. i did not put you in this category of SB (i dont think anyone did), and do not think you are one. what i'm saying is the feeling you now have because you have used this term loosely has come around and made you mental. you cant be mad at the peons of the board for pointing this out and poking you. this is exactly what i was talking about weeks ago. the jabbing your fellow racer and using the term is fine and all, but it obviously has effected you. hell, maybe its bothering him too. who knows. probably not.

unless you have a delorean we cannot go back in time and fix this, you can only move forward and learn these lessons. you are almost at the crafty-veteran level on the board, so now that you are more weathered you will "get it" more.
