Chimney Rock Conditions

One problem I see with this is in each park there are sections that hold up well and others that don't. Using CR, blue and red could be trashed and yellow be 100% good to go. The biggest issue is educating people on trail conditions. Like others have said. I didn't know about riding in shitty conditions till I found this site. We need more stickers to slap all over the kiosks.

But it's a lot harder to actually do it. I'm sick of crowdsourcing. That's a bullshit way to have other people solve your problems. I'm open to the programming solution if people will add data. The big thing here is that people need to add data points. That whole "lurking" thing ruins the model.
 
Bread becoming shit is an indication that it was a good, successful loaf of bread. Not so with our trails.

I think the baker would/should be miffed if somebody took a piss on his tray of freshly baked bread. Then it can't be eaten, enjoyed and turned into shit as he had intended.

People are pissing on our bread.

How about a clever little flyer that we can hand out or slip under windshield wipers of offenders? I could have dispensed at least 20 of them last weekend. Something to get the point across while making them chuckle...and advertise mtbnj & jorba in the process.

I like this idea. Most people here live close to a favorite park, could have people volunteer to routinely check out their "assigned" park and give conditions updates. Don't know about all parks but the ones I'm familiar with you can get a good idea just with a quick hike/run into the trails. I'd gladly report on SMP
 
There are two type of people who ride when it's too wet: those that don't give a shit and those who don't know.
I started riding about a year ago- I was one that didn't know at first. Once I did, I'd ride the canal to save the trails when wet.
Perhaps signs at the trailhead would help those in the second camp.
I know- easier said than done, but some people just don't know.

If only there was someone who would just go fix the entire park. Kind of like an "adopt the trail" deal. Hmm...
 
That's what these regional sites do anyway, but other than checking the regular places I ride, I'm not going to browse the other 50 or so locations
the popular ride sites are updated regularly

My job at work to is to fix things and if need be with a computer/software solution, it can't be too hard, if I can get SAP to talk to other system this should be cake

Will be reaching out to Norm as I'll already be owing him a favor soon

someone mentioned getting this to a general forum, so will start there to gather requirements/suggestions

btw: I didn't ride CR today

Yeah but they still need lots of supervision unless you want every logover & rock removed, trails 3 foot plus wide among other issues. And what about the sections that get trashed that have no viable repair or reroute.
 
Just curious. Have we ever considered using a snowmobile to fix the issues?

I agree. Its hard enough getting those guys to do what we want when we're working with them all day. The're fine for keeping overgrowth cut back but as far as maintaining and repairing trails I don't know. You still need someone with knowledge to guide them. I guess its a little better.
 
I ran some of the trails yesterday. Some parts have dried out others are a complete mess. The middle brook extension loop is totally wet/soft. Most of yellow was wet to super wet and shoe sucking mud where there are no rocks. On the orange trail it was very wet anywhere the trail doesn't drain (read - a lot of it). General opinion is don't ride that side of the park. I didn't get over to the blue/white/red sections but can't imagine it's much better.

LOL, yes yes that!

MTB Aussie has been around almost as long as I have so I don't feel the need for formalities. However, to the people who don't know that it may sound a little, let's say "direct."

Regardless, I can confirm it's a muddy mess out there, and likely I won't bother even looking for another week (especially with the rain coming this week). I rode the 1 connector trail to get in, which may or may not actually be part of the park. It's half decent, 40% lousy, and 10% atrocious. From Gilbride I started up orange and quit after 30 feet. There's still a little ice on those rocks and water running down the hill.

The path around the reservoir is fine. From Newman's Lane I took this picture. Probably hard to see how bad but it's really bad going into red:

I got a PM yesterday from someone that stated that conditions are the worse they've ever seen. By the looks of that picture, he was correct.

I think the best way to think about it is like this. On the ride home I was thinking to myself, "The roads are still f'ing wet. It hasn't rained in something like 5 days and the roads are wet. How dry can the trails possibly be?"

It's not just that the roads are wet, the friggin grass is wet! From the ballfields down to the frisbee golf I was leaving inch deep footsteps in the grass it is _that_ soft. And I added a score to the db Norm. Cool widget - Can't wait for those lights to all turn green.
