Sourlands Mountain Preserve Conditions

Frozen goodness this morning from 9:00-10:30. Parking lot was just starting to thaw as i came out. I did the full permimeter loop and trails were 95% frozen solid dirt with a little hardpacked snow/ice toward the end of Boulderama which was totally rideable. The lower trails should be a swampy mess by now. Do not ride here unless we have a full night in the mid 20s or below and you can be done riding by 10am.

Uh. Nope

This photo should help your decision. This was taken this week while on foot. This is what most of the trails in NJ look like today. This is the time of year for base Miles on the road

Just got back from a trail run - yep it's muddy as hell - top and bottom. More like a segment of a tough mudder - near the bottom I was running through the creeks to knock off the 40 lbs of mud off my shoes.

FYI jdro some clown knocked down that stone TT on the new switchback section

Great ride today with a good little crew. Trails were good to go. New gravel causeway up top was nice.

9 is more realistic 😀 gonna have a few brews tonight
I just have to slap on a chain onto the bike tonight... i'll report back

Sorry, i'm low-tech so no GPS. The current county map is accurate though:

the only "real" re-route is going through the fence heading up to roaring brook - rather than the fall-line trail that was washed out, the trail works out to the right - and up. comes out at the stone pile.

something else to look at.

forgot to update conditions -

all was good - couple of soft spots low/south of the pipeline, but not muddy.
trails were clear, like someone walked them with a blower.

I'll be there tomorrow am, gonna ride in from home prolly between 9-10am - will be my first bona fide attempt to ride that place. Plan to take it very slow and work on rocky sections - if you see a guy on a green spearfish (or lying in the rocks unconscious) say hello

should we help you if you are unconscious or just say hello?

if I had more time I would actually join you on the road but yet, I have another wedding to get to lol

Thanks for the info. When I rode there this week I saw the trail too late. I was hike a bike up the fall line. Then saw the trail branch when I was at the top.
Now I know..

Good conditions except for a few wet spots near the bottom. I ended up on 3 amigos and man did I have no business being there - I was crashing and hike-a-biking left and right. well live and learn.
