Bearscat 2012

On a side note,

Is the pump house trail being used for the race only, or is that trail open to bikes in general. Last I knew, it was foot traffic only.

If it is open to bikes, is the section through the swamp rideable or has it been relo-ed?

Going tomorrow, and looking to expand my way way repertoire.

Thanks!

Pumphouse is open to bikes now. The swamp is fine, 2 bridges had work done on them and its not to muddy through the rest.

I may try a pre-ride this weekend. Anybody have a gps route of the course? (nothing came up on a search) I found the map on the event page so I'll use that if needed.

Trying to quickly compare the routes, it looks like a little was added south of the gas line, but a large amount of the north part of the course was removed. Is it still ~25 miles?

Sightly shorter at about 24 miles but times will be similar to last year due to the addition of some trail

Is the second lap all downhill? Because by then I'm gonna pretty much need it. But without a lot of rocks. Maybe all downhill pavement?

At first glance it looks like the new course is trading the long fireroad section of Iron Mtn for Turkey Ridge/Budha and a longer section of the recent singletrack (Hemlock?).

The course is probably a bit shorter (distance-wise) but probably similar time-wise.

Also it looks like it goes through that single track between the fireroad and the swamp after exiting Red Dot. (with a mandatory dismount) or is it just the marker being too thick?

Nice additions overall but isn't the gas line crossing after Budha pretty swampy? Or is it better since last year's construction? I usually continue thru Splitrock instead. (now _that_ would be interesting 🙂 )

THere was some trail work done after you come left out of Budha at the bottom, but it looks like someone took a big truck thru and f'ed it all up.

This GPS is acurate:

Although Iron Mountain is out there is some fireroad out by Ferber Circle that is really fast. You are on the road about 1 mile into the finish area, though it is a gradual but steady climb.

If the conditions are good I think the course will be faster than expected.
