I need help my rear brakes have no stoping power! i can stand next to the bike holding the rear brake and still roll the bike. i am thinking i need to replace the brake pads. I have never done this. is it worth taking to the shop to get it done. or should i try myself. my only thought about doing it myself is if there is some type of ajustment needed that i dont know about. also do i need any specal tools.
Thanks for the help

'could be pads, 'could be either cable (if mechanical), or they need bled (if hydraulic), or something is broken in the system somewhere (such as the master if hydraulic), or you could have gotten grease, or something, on them somehow, or they just need adjusted if mechanical...the list goes on.

What kind of brakes are they?

To answer your question, you'll probably want to take it to a shop.

Thanks for the help. the brakes are mechanial, i dont think it is the cable and the roters are clean / no grease are grim on them. I looked at u tube to see how the pads come out of the calaper so i will take the pads out today. is there any ajustments to make to the calaper? I am trying not to go to the shop since I just lost my job.

No worries...we are all dumbasses at one time or another (some of us are always).

You might want to take some alcohol and wipe down your rotors too...

Happy riding...
