What you gon’ do with all that junk?
All that junk inside your trunk. I’ma get, get, get, get, you drunk, get you love drunk off my hump.
What would the world be without these literary masters? I know I would be lost without fine lyrics like these to get me through the day and change the mundane work day into something more exciting, even if only slightly more. It does help pass the time as I spent a few min this fine morn searching for a picture of fergie’s humps, but was thrilled to come up with something better:
While some may think I came up short on what I found, I beg to differ as what I found was much more exciting. Camel humps. Almost
classic. What the hell would we do without the internet?
In my junk riding life, I was treated to another close to 2 hour ride, which seems like a treat as of late. Mainly due to pinktober events, which have come to an end for the most part. Earlier this month I was in the positions of having an abundant supply of MBU’s but not having the time to really use any of them and as most know, MBU’s expire, so I was looking to cash some in. Really though, just the way the cards fell the past couple of days, I didn’t need to use any MBU’s for any of these rides. Sometimes things just work themselves out, which is much easier than having to barter time to ride or whatever. To add to the excitement of my ride, I road in PA too since I dropped my son at the in-laws. I parked at the park-and-ride next to I-95 in upper makefield and headed towards new hope. I took this picture from the parking lot, just after sunset. It would be a moon lit ride.
The moon was bright, not crazy bright, but became bright enough that moon shadows were aplenty and I often mistook the moon light for a car coming from behind a few times. I did my pretty standard route to new hope this way but did it in reverse of what I normal do. It was a stellar night, a big difference from the rain of the morning. Temps around 50’s, no wind, bright moon, it really doesn’t get much better than that for a night ride. I opted for just my bar light, which kind of sucks for going around turns and higher-speed downhills, but I didn’t feel like having the light on the helmet for this ride. I stopped one time to try and take a picture of some moon shadows, but my phone camera just wasn’t having that. I have a really close call on the downhill into new hope where a car coming the other direction almost pulled right in front of me. I skidded a bit but the guy stopped and I was disappointed I didn’t have the helmet light to shine in his face. Helmet lights are good for that. The area around new hope is perfect for that Halloween and fall feel and I got that freaking feeling on one or two roads, but twas in my head. On the way back, I turned off my light for awhile along an open road with no cars and rode by the moonlight. I highly recommend this as it is a cool experience.
About 5 miles from my car, the light on my stella starts flashing, which means the battery is almost dead. Shit! I change my route so I can go along roads in the middle of fields, where the moon light is unobstructed. I rode almost the whole section of Wrightsville road without a light since I know the pavement is smooth there and I only turned it on a few times when cars were coming the other direction. The other rode I choose was a bad choice as the pavement sucked and there were a lot of cars coming towards me, so I have to use the light since damn car light flood everything out. I have to say, night riding in the morning is much more enjoyable because of less cars. I tried riding with the strobe light and within 5 seconds it was driving me mad, so I just left it on the lowest setting. I made it back to my car just fine.

Today
As I was finishing my ride last night, fog was already starting to creep into the low areas, so I expected a foggy ride this morning and god ole MN did not disappoint. Ride with lights and fog is not a great combination, but I had both the bar and helmet on, which helps a little. I decided to take an easier route this morning since my volume has been up the past couple of days. Only thing to note is that I included the Aunt Molly, which was choppy as hell and hopefully will smooth out come winter time. I did focus on maintaining a higher cadence and hit an average in the mid-nineties.
After the ride I stopped home and rode in. The ride in was interesting as I had a few close calls with running stop signs/lights. While I wasn’t close to being hit, I had to divert on to the sidewalk once and onto the wrong side of the road the other. I guess I could just stop, but what is the fun in that?

Junk Time
As norm mentioned, these would be junk miles only if you care. I won’t say I don’t care, because who doesn’t want to get faster? But I don’t care enough that it bothers me that I am stuck. Maybe next year I will see about some kind of structured intervals or something, but there is no way I care to keep to any kind of plan. What it comes down to most is that I am out there riding. It is a constant, doesn’t necessarily matter what I ride, just that I am riding. If I was a racer, it would be different, but since I don’t take the time to get to races and such, it kind of goes hand-in-hand that I wouldn’t really care about training when I don’t have anything to train for. In fear of sounding like a broken record, I will just stop there for now. However, if it is junk miles I ride most of the time, I am head-over-heels
love drunk.
