Any good instructional mtb books?

Being new to riding I was wondering if there are any must read books on skills an technique? Would love your input....

The Ned Overend and Brian Lopez books are both good. Mastering them both would take years.

Check bookfinder.com for a used copy. You can find the Overend one there for $3+ with shipping, which is nothing. Alot of the sites on bookfinder charge like 1 cent for the book, and 3 dollars or more for shipping, this is a gimmick to pad themselves on search engines. You can ship any book sized parcel with media mail for a dollar and some change, but at the end you still save.

No books will be as useful as spending time riding with more experienced riders. Try to hook up with some small group rides or clinics. Keep an eye on the rides / events forum.

I would have to second the Brian Lopes book Mastering Mountain Bike Skills. There are loads of great techniques in there, but you do have to get out on the trails to really improve your skills. There are also a couple of DVDs out there that you can check out.

I agree. Come to one of the Sunday beginner rides @ Allaire.

He was out today red cannondale SS 29er....Tony and Him took off from us when we were checking the bridge..

I am the same way...

I am not a name and faces person. A great ride today; and Tony was a great guide on the other side of park as well.

I totally agree that there is no replacement for getting outside and giving it heck; but being an avid consumer of information I was just looking for some starting points.
