1.25" hitch rack options?

I work from home, so I don't drive that much these days - quite a change from the 30K+/year I used to put on my cars when I worked in Somerset. Other than weekend trips - usually to ride - my driving during the week consists of one or two grocery store runs and 1-3 drives to Nesh to ride - maybe 100 miles/week.

My main bike hauler is my 2017 minivan, but I also have a 2006 MINI as well as a small fleet of little British cars (three Triumphs) in various states of in-operation, but once in a while they do run. Cars hate sitting. Long periods on inactivity are not good for them. So in order to drive my cars more, I want to use them for getting to local riding spots. Nesh and Nox mostly. Maybe even Pennypack and even Trexlertown (I'm pretty sure I could figure out a nice scenic route from Trexlertown to my house, although it would be far from direct).

So I need a bike rack. It needs to fit a 1.25" receiver (the one on the MINI). It also needs to carry my 54 lbs. e-bike.

Many of my friends have 1UP racks and by all accounts they love them. But the 1UP rack that fits a 1.25" receiver is only rated for 50 lbs. per tray. The other option is the Thule Verse which comes in a 1.25" version and is rated for 55 lbs.

While the engineer in me says 1UP probably built in enough of a safety factor to say an extra 5 lbs. of weight is not likely to be an issue, the leery part of me says that safety factor wasn't meant to be pushed over the limit on a regular basis.

With that in mind, I'm leaning towards the Versa, which is available in a 1.25" version and is rated for 55 lbs. bikes.

Are there other options I'm missing? Keeping in mind the 1.25" receiver and 55 lbs. capacity requirements.

According to their website the Kuat NV 2.0 is rated for 60lbs per tray. I've got one with the 2" receiver and it's been rock solid for over a decade at this point.

Kuat Piston Pro seems to meet your specs

Second vote for the Kuat NV 2.0. I actually bought mine secondhand and then changed the 1.25" base of the rack to fit my 2" receiver, but it was quite solid before the change even with an adapter.

That Piston is sweet, tho.... one day...

I have the little 1up and have had e-bikes on it quite a few times, it’s fine. If you’re nervous pop the battery out and it’ll be under the weight limit anyway.

I ran the 1up with 1.25+2" adapter. Stress would be the same at the weld (I think)
It did fine with the 50lb eBike.
they have to have a decent safety factor over rated load......couple lbs ain't doing anything.

For some reason I had it in my head the Piston Pro wasn't available in a 1.25" version...

Thanks for the suggestions... although more options haven't helped with my decision paralysis...

I added the heavy duty bar to 1-1/4" quik rack to help with the extra weight as the only difference was this part and the receiver size. Last week after years of use, I ripped the 19" strap assembly out of the tray by pushing my ebike forward when unloading. Drilled and tapped offset holes to fix. 1/4-20 bolts threaded into aluminum is not sufficient. This and the flex when driving, I can no longer recommend a 1up rack.

1Up and a new, lighter e-bike. Lock it up.
I want a lighter e-bike, but considering the one I have is only a year old, that won't be happening anytime soon... unless I stumbled upon a REALLY good deal on a used Levo SL in size large.

I have the 1.25" version of the 1UP USA rack with a one bike add-on. I used that to transport 2 ebikes using the 2" adapter down to Bentonville and back without any issues. The main stress point is on the shaft and welds that go into the receiver hitch and that held up well. I think you'll be fine with it.

Looking for a single tray 2" hitch. All I see are Ebike sizes, which I suppose are heavier for heavier load. I just have 1 mtn bike. Any decent options out there? Budget is an issue and don't need fancy schmancy. Thanks!

1UP isn't cheap but they do a great single bike 2" and it's expandable if need be.

I have a gently used, light 1Up rack with 2" hitch for sale - I have 3 trays but since they all bolt off it can be used as a single. Not sure where you live. PM me if interested, I can send you details.
