Tariffs...what to make of them.

Come on. Be a good son. Visit.
And put parental block on Fox News.
Yeah, no.

This I found funny with my cousin backing up my parent's craziness. My cousin is a decade older than me and I remember as a kid thinking "This guy is one of the dumbest motherfuckers I've ever met. Can people be this stupid?" My little brother has Down Syndrome so let that sink in for how dumb I thought my cousin was.

I just throw my hands up in the air and accept the fact that not everyone is Einstein. But the really dumb people aren't rallying behind Kamala.

On 23 January 2016, trump said "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I would't lose voters."

He was obviously correct. It does not matter what is in the Epstein files about him. He is bulletproof. He's probably more concerned about his friends and donors. Though, once the names get out expect the pardons to follow.

Steve, if you could start a new thread of dumb Trump posts by family, I'll post up some of mine. Remember, I've got roots in Indiana so make sure you're sitting down. Extra points for misspellings and racial undertones.

I'm still buying the dips. It's been a good distraction and I've done okay with it. This way when society collapses, Ill have some cash for hookers and blow on the way out.

Unless China zeros out all bank accounts at some point, which is just as likely.

Buy ammo and vodka - cash will get you nowhere.

and when I say vodka, I mean moonshine

Wait, our already high property tax just went up 25%, already high electric bill up 20%, all insurance premiums up and I'm shocked at the price of 1 bag of groceries. Mind you, not one of my gigs has gone up at all in years.
trump saying billions coming in from tariffs, billions saved by cutting federal programs. Where is this money going and will us regular people ever see anything go down?

Well... the thing is most of the tariffs haven't even gone into effect yet... so we haven't even begun to see those impacts to pricing.

Money is going into select few individual pockets and folks like use are left holding the bag 🤬

tRUMP had to hire back 450 people back for the National Weather Service after eLON fired them. The cuts are going to cost us more.

Enjoying that streamlined DOGE efficiency…

Due to FAA air traffic control staffing shortages, the number of flights into and out of Newark Liberty International is limited to safely manage the airspace around the airport. This may affect operations, potentially leading to delays, longer taxi times, and flight crew adjustments for all airlines.

Look for 20-30% increases on the street for bikes and parts from the EU. The dollar is slipping in power. Plus moronic tariffs that only hurt consumers.

Scary days coming

I asked google: How is a us retailer supposed to apply a tariff

How US retailers handle tariffs
Contrary to a common misconception, tariffs are not directly paid by foreign suppliers or the exporting country. Instead, tariffs are import taxes levied by the US government on goods entering the country and are paid by the US importer of record, which is often the retailer themselves or their designated agent, at the time the goods clear customs.
Here's a breakdown of the process and key considerations for US retailers:
  1. Product Classification: The first crucial step is to correctly classify the imported goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) code. This code determines the specific tariff rate applicable to that product. Incorrect classification can lead to penalties or delays.
  2. Calculating Tariff Impact: Once the HTSUS code and corresponding tariff rate are known, retailers can calculate the landing cost of the product, which includes the product's unit cost, exchange rates, shipping, insurance, import duties, and other overhead costs. This helps them model the tariff's impact on profitability and pricing.
  3. Payment of Tariffs: The importer (retailer or agent) is responsible for paying the tariffs to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the border before the goods are released.
  4. Passing on Costs: While retailers initially bear the direct cost of tariffs, they often pass these expenses down the supply chain through negotiations with suppliers or by raising prices for consumers, according to SmartAsset.com. Studies have shown that recent tariffs have been primarily passed on to US firms and ultimately, consumers. This can impact consumer demand as goods become more expensive.
  5. Mitigation Strategies: Retailers are employing various strategies to mitigate the impact of tariffs:
    • Negotiating with Suppliers: Retailers are engaging in negotiations with suppliers to share the burden of increased costs.
    • Diversifying Supply Chains: Exploring sourcing options from countries not subject to tariffs or nearshoring production can help reduce reliance on heavily tariffed countries.
    • Adjusting Pricing Strategies: Retailers may use a tiered or flexible pricing approach across product assortments to absorb some costs and strategically pass on others to consumers, depending on product elasticity and consumer demand.
    • Seeking Tariff Exemptions: Retailers can explore the possibility of obtaining exemptions for certain products, particularly those deemed critical for national security or those that support US job creation.
In essence, US retailers are tasked with navigating the complexities of tariff regulations, absorbing initial costs, and implementing strategic adjustments across their supply chains and pricing models to manage the impact on their business and consumers.

Here are some tariffs from one of my vendors:

In this instance my instructions are to pass on these Tariffs to the end user as a TAX on the purchase.

This will be a common thing in the coming year.

Not fun, not helpful or productive. Also not making anyone consider bringing manufacturing of carbon framed bikes to the US.
