It's pretty obnoxious that the Strava feed to Trailforks auto-locks the activity such that you cannot post it to TF as a shared activity. In all the years this thread has been going I never once considered dropping Strava. But this level of pettiness makes me think about it.
Strava is the poster child for enshittification. I can't believe no app has come close to replacing them.
My mind is still blown that Garmin didn't try. It seems like their infrastructure with Garmin Connect was already in place and it wouldn't have been that hard to add the social media features.
Partially I wonder if someone at Garmin did the math and realized there just isn't money in it.
Even more since Garmin has been great about working with apps/companies with data sharing and Strava had their big lock downs on the data. I'm assuming Strava is still bleeding money. With the way the bike industry is going and fitness industry especially post Covid I'm assuming there's less ad dollars.Very interesting thoughts. I upload my rides to Strava through Garmin Connect. I assume most of us do.
The irony that Strava sucks the free hog of Garmin Connect then refuses to let anyone use their data is pretty rich.

Isn't Garmin connect delivering directly to TF now?

This is what I was going to suggest, Cut out the Strava middleman. Strava is just the endpoint for all my stuff now, I do not record anything (unless I’m in a pinch) or pull anything from Strava. TBH I should start looking elsewhere just because Strava sucks so bad as a company.Yeah.
I also see that Trailforks added an easier way to upload directly from Garmin. I just set mine up:
Hopefully this works cleanly. I disabled the Strava sync.
There's also a tool to convert your past Strava uploads to having come from Garmin. While I am tempted to do that, I am also hesitant because I'd prefer to not lose 10 years of TF data.
I thought they did try with adding segments and some other features that strava had at the time? Garmins app looks like a POS compared to strava. My mind is still blown that Garmin didn't try. Garmin seems to suck at UI in general. My only experience is a few edge devices and the connect app/site, but they leave a lot to be desired.I thought they did try with adding segments and some other features that strava had at the time? Garmins app looks like a POS compared to strava.
Just remembered this too - along the way, Strava app was able to connect to anything that had a BT/BTLE interface.
Suddenly they stopped - except smart watches that paired to the phones.
They claimed they had app crashes, and did not want to deal with all of the interfaces.
This stabilized the head unit market, which is garmin's $$ maker.
Could it have been a deal that Garmin will keep sending data if Strava doesn't start directly recording all of the sensor data?
makes sense ?
Garmin has great customer support. I know, having broke 8 of them.
Are you actually the original Mr. Magoo?
