Ask an automobile mechanic.

Dropped off my Subaru last week for some warranty work which required removal of the turbo. I went to pick it up on Friday evening and when I started it up I immediately heard an exhaust leak. They couldn’t look at it until today.

Based on this, I’m hoping I have brakes for the ride home (since they touched those too). Asshole mode on standby, hopefully will not need to activate lol

Shouldn’t the service advisor be the one responsible for translating? In my mind, they should be talking to the mechanic in technical terms and the service advisor is responsible for communicating that to the customer. If they realize that the customer understands how a car works, then they should communicate appropriately.

This all assumes that the mechanic and the service advisor know their ass from their elbow

service advisor doesn't know how to use the computer.
that's the owner's kid doing their work-study program.

Hopefully you don’t end up with getting a new crack pipe installed.

🤪

Daughter scraped up my front passenger wheel on my Mazda CX50 today 😢. Wheel design is two tone (machined surface main spokes, gloss black between spokes). Have any of you used one of these local area wheel specialists? Any of these or others you’d recommend? Madison/Morristown area preferably. The third one is mobile.

I used our local in Whitehouse and they did an excellent job.
might need to replace the TPS in that wheel. they seem to break them.

Ask a local body shop who they use.

My son had this happen on his previous car and he decided to find a decent junkyard wheel for cheap that matched and the body shop sent it out for repair it came back like brand new. Agree with Pat about the TPS replacement.

I can found out who they used if you want.

Working at a jeep dealership in far hills , we have used Alloy wheel repair for sometime now. They are Mobil and do really great work . Bought n old jeep liberty for my daughter a few years back and had them redo all 5 wheels ( spare looked bad to ) and they still look great to this day !!!

We use Alloy also and they're fine. Although they are mobile, machined faced wheels (pretty sure yours are) have to be done at their facility not on the truck unfortunately.
Your wheel is pretty gouged, just be aware they'll be taking a lot of material away from it.

Hmm I didn’t think about that (losing material). I had them repair my Volvo wheel about 20 years ago and they added material then ground it to flush. In fact, I actually refinished a small section of rim rash myself many years ago using some form of epoxy and sanding it down to smooth. I didn’t do as good a job at matching the finish of the wheel though, so next time around I used Alloy. But that was so long ago I was curious as to others’ experience. I’ve sent them a request for a quote. I’ll also check around for a replacement rim.

i think this is the place I used to refinish m3 polished wheels. they did amazing job.

I say I think because I think they moved from Route 10 to this new location. I think @mfennell recommended them

Not me. 🙂.

I favor Wheel Collision Center in Bath, PA but they're not as convenient as the local options. They send a truck to NJ daily to pick up wheels from the shops they work with, then return them in a few days. In my area, that's Middletown Service Center (come to think of it - I set up the arrangement 20+ years ago).

Got quotes ranging from $190 to $230. They add material, then grind down to flush. Because the spokes have a machined finish, they have to be CNC’d and thus shopped out (hence mobile is no can do). Aiming to have it taken care of next week.

Until then, parking with that sorry rim in plain view is, for me, the automotive equivalent of toilet paper stuck to my shoe. 😁

anyone have one of the guys? the time to do a coolant change on the truck is coming up and wondering if this would be money well spent or if i should just use a funnel.

I have a coolant vac and it does work great on Porsches, and I may have used it once on a atv or something also. I say buy the tool and then buy the proper vehicle to use it on

lol

which vac do you have? the whole no or minimal burping required is enticing to me. but $100 for a tool i use once every 5-10 years is . . .. yea
