Ramblings from Moe Mountain

I’ve only been able to ride bike ten miles this month so far due to much swelling and pain in my right knee.
I’ve tried everything to make it better, ice, massage, Tens, exorcize it. Nothing helps.
Went to Orthopedic dr. yesterday and got it drained of five large vials of fluid and a cortisone injection.
t now feels less better than I expected, but it is better overall. Doctor says I should “resume my normal activities“,
so I did a nice 15 mile Wawayanda ride today. Yeah Bikes!

Had my semi annual doctors appointment today. Besides being great to look at, she is really a good doctor.
Assistant took my blood pressure 120/80, just fine.
She left and said doctor will be in to see you in two minutes, I said great, I’ll time her, she took six.
She said, so you’re 81 this year and doing pretty good. She took my blood pressure, 100/80, great.
I said it was just 120/80 five minutes ago, she said “I must have a calming effect on you”.
I said, no I don’t think so, you also just said my heart rate is kinda high.
I wanted to say, because you look pretty good, but I left it alone.
As I creep into my senility I’m finding I need to work seriously on myself,
paying attention to my body and working to strengthen the week spots.
I’ve never consciously done that before. Like my “water on the knee, or knee effusion”.
Doctor said you’ve brought it on by over use, I agreed, but the weather has been too nice and I’ve been biking a little too much,
like 450 miles in June, and 300 so far up to July 19th. So I’ve taken off riding for a few days to heal up.
Ice pack on the knee regularly, and soft exercise. Keeping the leg elevated, god, I’m my new project!
I’m finding out body care is very important, mild exercising and stretching the whole body helps a lot too.
That’s it for now, gotta pace myself and slow down a little so as not to burn myself out too soon.
I said to doctor today, Clint Eastwood says "getting old isn't for sissies. She replied he also said, a man's gotta know his limitations. .
