Ask an automobile mechanic.

So new problems with my 2001 gmc yukon: (i think bad ground?)

Symptoms:
1. Dashboard odometer lights sometimes flash/ sometimes doesn't (probably unrelated)
2. Turn signals work fine with daylight headlights on.
3. When I turn on the parking lights, or headlights, the tail lights are nice and bright
4. With the parking lights/headlights on, if I turn the right signal on, the left light will light dimly and the right signal light flashes very fast. It will be the same results with the left turn signal.
5. With the brakes on, and the parking lights/headlights off, the turn signal work fine.

Therefore, for some reason current from the tail lights are going though the turn signal circuit with the headlights on.

So, with #4 and #5 symptoms, the only difference being the headlight switch, I gather I have a bad headlight switch?

replaced the flasher module first. much cheaper and easier than that stem.
there are a couple diodes in there - sounds like they have stopped dioding.
(diode is like a check valve, just for electricity)

Flasher module replaced. Only change is the flasher dont flash as fast with the taillights on with #4. the non turning side is still dimly flashing.

Damn.

Dirt in the trailer electrical connection?
The idea of a floating ground works. Not sure how to diagnose.
Rodent damage

So yesterday went to run the AC in the car since it got warm and it wasn't blowing cold air. Makes sense now why last week the defroster wasnt clearing the window either since it uses the AC. 2013 Sante Fe sport 2.0T, only has 95K miles on it.

Before I bring it to the shop, wanted to ask the experts if its worth the time and money to give this a shot myself, as I have never tried it before and maybe I can save some money and time. I already got YouTube certified before I posted this, so I am part way there. worst case I am out 35 bucks if its leaking from one of the lines, best case I save a few hundred more $$$ at the local repair shop.

Do it yourself and let me know how it goes. I need to do this myself soon.

can't hurt to try - it will only hook to the low side.
learn how to jump the compressor first - see if it is cold. hopefully just the relay then,.

I posted about my cooling fan staying on after shutting down my Suburban about a year ago. It’s happened two times more recently so I finally figured I’d take care of it.

I just replace the temperature sensor and while doing so the small white safety clip crumbled as I tried to remove it.

Any idea where I’d be able to find this little white plastic clip? It’s a separate piece that slides onto the top of the sensor plug. Not even sure what to call it when searching online.

oh well - thanks to my YouTube certification, I learned how to check the AC lines for leakage (oily residue) and I am 99% sure that one of these lines is bad and leaking where the crimped side connects to the rubber side. known issue with this vehicle.

This is the High side line and are connected somehow in a spot where I know I wont be able to even attempt to replace it with my clumsy hands and limited toolset.

After I just dropped a big chunk of change to fix the son's car, now off to the shop it will go - sigh.

Looking good stb222! I love how a fresh rotor looks - unfortunately they don't look that good for long.

Speaking of brakes - does anyone have a recommendation of caliper paint? I'm redoing the rear axle of my Defender and the brake calipers are looking a little rusty. Something that will last at least for a little while in off road conditions / our NJ climate.

Quick pics of a stupid side project I did yesterday. The spindles are from an ABS axle on a Discovery 1. The semi circular cut out held the sensor. I had welded a piece of round stock into the holes on each side of the axle housing this winter before repainting them a month ago.

There is a plate that goes on the outside and I didn't want crud getting stuck in that cutout so I welded an M12 bolt head to it. The backside will have a gasket with Right Stuff so I kept it unwelded to keep the surface flat.

I did it myself a couple of years ago on my RAV4 and it worked. Half way down to Florida the A/C started blowing less and less cold air. When we got to the townhouse I went to a local auto parts store and got a recharge kit. Been working ever since.

I wonder if these refill kits have a stop leak type sealer in them...🤔
