24-25 Ski and Snowboard Thread

I know everyone shits on Mountain Creek but I don't know what I'm doing and just having fun being a jerry out there. I just got the spring25/winter 26 season pass and plan on going a bunch after work/twilight next year and early/late weekend days for a couple of hours. But I also want to go to good places next year but I'm pretty taken back by the cost of lift tickets. What do you guys do for ikon/epic passes or whatever? Or are there other packages you can get? Or does everyone just eat it and pay full price?
I have an epic pass due to having a place near okemo. What are good places or where do you want to ski? If you have places you want to go, then buy pass that has access to the resort you want to ski or ride. Epic and Ikon both have various products and price points that will limit number of days are certain resorts and include holiday blackout dates. Plenty of folks alternate between epic and ikon each season. Ski3 (gore, bellayre and whiteface) is also a good option. Indy pass is interesting, but limited bigger resorts near NJ.
Time to buy for next season is in the spring

i've thought about the carv app. Didn't purchase because of the price. I can't tell if i would love it or hate it. Looks like it has been updated since i last considered it. But still $250 for the sensor and the app. I just don't know. From what i recall you would prob need to spend lots of time of green cruisers working on fundamentals of carving to break all the old habits and then progress in pitch.

I really get the zen of it all, but at the same time always wanting to improve. In the moment i don't necessarily care how perfect a turn is until i slide out on a turn. Or when watching people hold an edge on boilerplate and thinking how i'm just sliding those turns that i really start to think about technique. Sunday was out with my wife and kids and much slower pace than normal so I was really focused on short rounded turns and rolling my inside knee, completing turns and i bet carv would have been nice to have. Normal free ski day with the kids or friends and it is just about having fun, and going and finding the best conditions. At that point, not necessarily worrying about the dynamics of a perfect set of turns.

If i could borrow the sensors and app for a day, i'm sure that would be great. Maybe i would love it and buy it. Not something i need to have, but maybe.
I have close to 50 years of bad habits. The only lessons I ever had was when I was able to take skiing as my gym elective in college. And like most college electives, it was pretty useless.

I bought it during the Black Friday sale so $50 less. They do have a 100 day satisfaction guarantee so you can return it. They actually don't bill you until the 100 days are up. It's a bit addictive and keeps you focused on technique to up your score. Makes someplace like Blue Mountain more interesting. Since it's only focused on carving right now, you can really toast your legs trying to get a good score. It rewards bigger edge angles and higher G's. Not easy to do for long.

Heading to Killington Thursday night.
I was thinking of hitting pico or K-town on Friday, but the warmer temps in the days prior seem like the colder temps on Friday would lead to some icy/hard conditions. What do you think? Saturday may be ok as it will warm up a bit.

Looks like a weather roller coaster for sure, hoping the elevation helps. Planning on Pico Friday but will see what the group/weather decides.

I am planning Saturday at Pico depending on how the weather plays out. Never crowded there weekends vs Killington. Friday I may fatbike. Sunday is Cold Roll at Pine Hill Park in Rutland if you’re interested in joining us. Gonna be icy on the slopes Sunday for sure.

I’m feeling bullish on the forecast🤞

I'm thinking of getting the Ikon Base pass. It includes up to 5 days at Killington/Pico as well as Camelback and Windham and unlimited to Sugarbush and Stratton. I could see myself making 2 or 3 trips to VT next year. I have no desire to go to Camelback but if it's included then maybe. Plus the Mountain Creek pass gets a discount at Gore, Whiteface, Belleayre, and Plattekill. I need to see how much it is when they make it available

I will put big sky on my list of one of the better places I have skied... Great snow, great diversity of terrain, almost never waited in a lift line, parking was easy... Just fun all over the place... Great tree skiing, easy groomers for my wife, lone peak was intense.... Loved it. After spending the past 3 days at Jackson hole, I'll take big sky over it any day

If you're skiing Big Sky you should spend a day at Bridger Bowl too. Great mountain that still prices lift tickets for less than Blue or Camelback.

Big Sky was a great place to ski pre-Ikon. Lift tickets were cheap and we stayed slope side at the Huntley for Xmas week for less than $400/night. Never waited for a lift even during Xmas week. I really need to get out there again. One of my customers moved and built a house less than 2 miles from the mountain. . Invites me out all the time. He skis it every day during the season.
Forgot to mention that Big Sky is truly fabulous. Already looking forward to going back.

Yep Big Sky is amazing. Huge terrain, lots above tree line and very diverse. But it has gotten wicked expensive in the last 5-6 years, and finding decent accommodations often requires reservations almost a year in advance. There’s also not much of a town there, as compared to Breck which has tons of apres-ski options

Turned out to be a stellar three days at Killington! Some trails like Superstar and Ovation were nasty (icy) on Friday but amazingly good on Saturday. The woods had great coverage and were in good condition all weekend long. Snow started dumping on Saturday afternoon which only improved things. My knees hurt.

@Zaskar I hit pico Saturday and agree it was surprisingly forgiving. Unfortunately I overcooked a turn and took a spill that forced me to quit the day halfway through so I didn’t get the benefit of the afternoon snow. X-rays and CT are negative thankfully. Glad you had a good time.

Glad to hear you’re OK. Falling is something I really want to avoid at this point of my life although it seems unavoidable with our chosen hobbies.

Two decent days at Killington, Saturdays are always crowded but if you avoid the K1 and the Bubble chair you can certainly make the lift lines ok. Sunday was much better crowd wise, conditions on both days were about the same.
