Science is looking up

Indian Lake NY, clouds parted at the right time. Came home yesterday. For those that sat in all that traffic, you are better than I. Route 28 in NY was a steady flow of traffic south. Glad we took the extra day.

Pictures can't really describe how awesome it was. We stayed away from the main events in town right after Noon. We set up in a Cul-de-sac with a total of 8 other cars, some went down a trail to watch it from the woods. The few minutes after it was over, half the cars darted.

I took a timelapse on my GoPro4, I just need to get nerdy and figure out how to turn it into a short video. Also made me realize I need some accessories for long events, as I didn't have a skeleton case to hook up an external battery supply as a while after the event, I needed to swap the battery.

Again, an extremely beautiful occurrence that I was glad to be able to witness.
 
According to the Aurora app there's a chance of seeing the northern lights tonight. There's been some pretty good local pics posted. Anybody got a good north facing spot? The aircraft radio park is my go-to stargazing spot but north is slightly obscured.

Just got back from local park. Not as bright as earlier pics some people around here posted but still cool to see.

Saw the comet tonight. about 7:45, 30deg up. just a smudge to the naked eye - needed binoculars.
Didn't have time to stay later to let it get more dark.
I'm heading up to NH this weekend - will bring the camera.

currently straight up from where the sun set.

I tried last night around 6:30-7pm saw nothing as it said to check right after sunset.

Will check again tmw
 
I use sky tonight, or star walk 2 for location.
All the constellation overlays can be turned off.
