Watches

Have you guys been to a Rolex dealer recently, they have changed the process of buying one. My brother collects them and it's apparently the same around the world. They're basically trying to make them more exclusive but that's only because of demand. Last I heard it's a few months wait after building the relationship. If someone here know better, lmk. I have a few folks I know who are on a wait list.
You're absolutely correct about buying a Rolex from an Authorized Dealer and how you need to establish a relationship for the more popular models which is why I mention to Pat about buying from an AD to establish a relationship for when you want to buy a more desired model in the future. Now, recently I bought a matching pair of his/hers watches for me and my wife from an AD. Not Rolex but Longines because we found a a pair that is understated perfect for church. While looking around the shop and me talking to the salesman my wife also saw a pair of Rolex. I don't recall the model because I was paying attention to the sale of the Longines but on our way out with our new watches the salesman opened the case and showed the two Rolex watches to us and almost forced us to put them on our wrists. He said if we want to return the Longines and get the Rolex he'd be more than happy to make that happen. If we wanted to we could have walked out with two Rolex watches. I think my wife took pictures of them but all I remember was it was about $25K for the pair.

The batteries are dead in all of them except the Rado!!!
The citizens eat batteries, part of what makes them so inexpensive - I need to polish some of the crystals, and some of the bands are beat up.
The bands in rough shape have donor links, since there is no other adjustment.
The movements can be swapped too - so i can drop the white face in the gold band
Just some sort of weird relationship i have going on with the style....

The pulsar was the first watch i purchased when i got out of college.
the two on the bottom right are the women's version of the elegance. both are broken.
I keep waiting for more to show up on ebay.

I've only been to a church for the occasional wedding. Who knew you needed matching watches.

You don't. My wife just didn't want anything flashy to wear to church so we got a pair that is very understated to avoid attention. Of course they don't have to match, it was just our decision to find a matching pair since we have other matching watches like our Tags I mentioned.

After watching stuff like Wristwatch Revival I'm thinking about getting an automatic, maybe a Seiko? The engineering inside is really fascinating.
I've got a couple Tag's, a Seiko F1 and love my G-Shock. However it seems like every time I replace a battery the overall lifespan is shorter and shorter. Dunno if battery quality isn't what it used to be but it seems more like a year or two now.

I love and have automatic watches and one of them is a Seiko but for some reason I can't seem to find it. My father gave that to me. I know it's in the house somewhere.

If you go the Seiko route, start with a Snowflake. Classic, elegant and collectible. One of my neighbors got one for his son for college graduation.

And don't get a Tag automatic. Their quartz watches are amazing, but their automatics not so much. You'll be sending it in every 2-3 years for a $400-600 overhaul. Buy once, cry once with these things.

If you're making that much of a stink to get my money you can keep your watch, thank you very much!
I might have a line on a used Daytona if interested..?
Is 'used' the new word for 'parallel import', 'fake' or 'stolen' ? Asking for a friend...

He purchased it as an investment - wore it a few times (usually when going into a watch store)
With the watch market pulling back, he wants to take his profits...
It's legit - and well out of my price range!
OTOH - ya never know.

Agreed. I've had my quartz Tag I got from Fortunoff for over 30 years now and it's still running great. Only thing I've had done was replace the batteries and gaskets. Same goes for my wife's matching Tag.

For S&G what is your friend looking to get for it?

LOL, no different than my Seamaster. I found it's cheaper to just reset the time every two weeks. So much for being "automatic."
