Why do I get a minus sign for a lot of photos?
At Brighton today....
man, that really is an insane amount of snow.
They pretty much always have a week or 10 days at some point during every season where they get over 100". You are correct, though, this season is just bonkers. Its happened a bunch of times. I've been going out there since the early 90's, I can't remember another season like this. CRAZY, in a good way.Since we left they got 2 more storms. Mind you, we left Saturday.
First was 23", then they got 13" more last night. 4 hours ago they posted that they have gotten 115" of snow in the last 7 days. It is nothing short of bonkers out there right now.
Somehow you also managed to miss any interlodge or road closures, they always suck.
And 20 min away in Salt Lake it looks like new jersey right now.... Which is nice... I mean thinking about it... It snow like 6 feet during our trip, about 30 min from where we were staying and we never needed to shovel.Since we left they got 2 more storms. Mind you, we left Saturday.

Well I agree that it's been an amazing year with regards to snow... But I'll also say that I have skied in Utah since 1985, not every winter but many of them since then... I have never had a bad trip to Utah... Even living there, not as good years... Still, worst year is 1000 times better than anything on the east coast. They pretty much always have a week or 10 days at some point during every season where they get over 100". Just so you know, it's not always this insane, you really got an incredible week to be out there for your first time. Good for you, I'm jealous! I'll be heading out there again in early April, its really cool, you can ski powder, play golf and mountain bike in the same day.

I've never had a bad trip there either, although one year in January we went hiking instead of skiing, for a day or 2, which was weird.Well I agree that it's been an amazing year with regards to snow... You just never know, when you schedule a trip in advance, which most of us have to do. I was trying to take my son out to Utah this week, the airfare was just too high for me to pull the trigger. Off to mount snow and Okemo instead, its not Utah, but its still really fun.The two times I’ve been to Utah in ski season it’s been either no new snow or warm 50’s weather. I’ve had better luck in CO and MT. But I don’t doubt Utah is great. For me it’s just been bad timing.
its funny...this isnt really something that @Norm would worry about on his first trip to utah.....because everything is new and amazing. But having been to snowbird many many times....This trip would have been a little annoying in that there was TOO much snow......They just can't keep up with the avalanche control and keeping things open...Which is a daunting task. I said to them...its like a night of drinking....awesome....awesome....awesome....1 too many drinking and now your vomiting. I would have been a little bummed to ski snowbird and high blady, road to provo, red lens, etc....all the longer traverses were closed. I mean I get it, people do die at snowbird....its just never stopping this year. The cannons were firing all day everyday in the 6 days we were there. Of course there is other stuff to ski, but I really love hiking up as high as I can and finding lines to ski.I've never had a bad trip there either, although one year in January we went hiking instead of skiing, for a day or 2, which was weird.
But, that had to be one of the best weeks ever, I mean 6 feet while you there, with an unbelievable base. Man, the more I think about it, the better it gets!
I know the west is way better than the east, but I'd rather have a powder day here, than a groomer day there.
I like that area over there, and it never gets too icy, because it’s not that steep. The west has better conditions 98% of the time, but I’ve skied ice in park city. Usually in the am, if the sun hasn’t softened it up yet. Nothing like whiteface, but if it doesn't snow for a while, all the really steep stuff gets super hard, maybe not quite ice, but still not fun for me. But, most of the time, it’s going to be better than Killington. I don’t get on a plane a couple of times of year cause it sucks. In Park City there is the King Con lift....its never going to be on any list of great spots to ski

But there are ~13 groomed runs that I like to think of that are similar to say the superstar run at killington if it didnt totally suck. Just wide, FAST, great snow.....carving them at like 40-50 mph is soooo fun. I cant ever remember them being icy. I remember bringing some friends to PC in 2002 who loved to go fast and carve turns....got they loved this stuff....Not my favorite, but I had alot of fun in this areas over the years.
The worst part about too much snow is getting stuck on a flat, or losing a ski. Oh man, those both blow.its funny...this isnt really something that @Norm would worry about on his first trip to utah.....because everything is new and amazing. i’m more into soft snow now, then pitch. For a long time i only wanted to ski the steepest stuff on the mountain. I don’t give a shit any more, if the steep stuff is skied off, I’m fine with low angle groomers that are soft. I’m old, but it’s better than being dead.

Bridger Bowl is a great mountain. We should have spent more than one day there after skiing Big Sky.My dad is up at Sugarbush right now, Then Thursday the 16th he flies to Bozeman, MT, stay 3 nights there and ski at Bridger Bowl at least one day, then off to Big Sky for a week, back to Bozeman on the 26th, Bridger Bowl on the 27th, and fly home on the 28th.
Am I jealous? Fuck yeah.
