In that case sell it for $5000 more than you bought it, and a box of crack.
The real Steve Vai doesn't have a Santa beard!

So to be a complete hypocrite, here’s my Gibson. I got it for nothing from a friend, who got it from someone else and never did anything with it. It was living broken in the back of his closet. It was literally beat to shit. It had fur and blood on it from where someone clubbed a rat to death. There are holes in the body from where the old tremolo was, and in the headstock from where the old tuners were. The finish on the neck is almost gone, and hanging on for dear life on the body. Very undignified way to leave a guitar. I took it to a reputable dude and spent a couple hundred bucks to getting running again. He fixed the neck, cleaned up the frets, and set it up. It sounds good, but it’s hard to play because the frets are so low and wide. I suggested a refret but he vehemently said “noooo, don’t touch it!”. Far as he could tell from the serial numbers it’s from the 60’s. I could probably get a couple hundred bucks for it but why? It’s cool in a rat-rod kind of way, like a rusted out Camaro with a 500hp LS swap, and it sounds good.View attachment 205174
SG’s were supposed the bare-bones guitar right? I almost bought a Tony Iommi SG back in the day when they were black with the cross inlays in the neck. I should of, it was $800 new and played great. Now that red 540R is the guitar that I compare every other guitar I play to, it’s my reference standard. This guitar reminds me of my beat to shit Talman. It's such a POS and yet absolutely everything it needs to be.
There...is....nothing....like......a.....goood......SG! Yes, looks 68ish maybe. Don't think pickups are original. Def would sell for way more than a couple hundred, even in its player grade condition. So to be a complete hypocrite, here’s my Gibson. Pickup in the bridge is a Duncan Super Distortion, that's what the guy who fixed it up told me. He said someone who was into Kiss probably put it there sometime in the 70's. Are the frets on yours super low and flat also?There...is....nothing....like......a.....goood......SG! Yes, looks 68ish maybe. Don't think pickups are original. I tried probably 20 used SGs when I was looking and each one had some sort of fatal flaw that kept me from buying, regardless of price. Then found one a twenty something year old got for HS graduation present years earlier and never touched. I saw it in the corner, out of the case, laundry covering it. Totally abused, dirty, neck SO far out almost unplayable. I asked if I could take it home and work on it, and for some reason he said sure. Tweaked, cleaned and it is by far the best SG I've ever played! Sound, neck, weight, everything. Other pro guitar friends play and are blown away. It's like it was happy I found it, like a rescue!

No, that's an early 70s thing on Fenders and Gibsons. My SG is 2006. Not sure what years are considered good or bad, but this one's great. SGs transcend eras, styles, popular players, bands. A good one is just plain good.Pickup in the bridge is a Duncan Super Distortion, that's what the guy who fixed it up told me. My only experience was I borrowed one for a gig last minute and it played and sounded exactly like my Les Paul, maybe had a little more bite to it. Bonus I got to feel like Tony Iommi for a night.SGs transcend eras, styles, popular players, bands. A good one is just plain good.
Nice guitar, like @MMuller said, way more than a couple hundred bucks if you went to sell it.Pickup in the bridge is a Duncan Super Distortion, that's what the guy who fixed it up told me. That’s pretty dope with the ENG’s. I had one of those mini Marshall amps like Jack Black had in school of rock I used to take on trips and it legit had a ton of gain. No clue what happened to it.Here's the travel setup. The little Amplug sounds surprisingly good for $40. Has some effects built in too. $20 SkullCandy headphones. The Spirit is $400, this one was $500 because the previous owner converted it to use Active EMGs so it has a lot more umffff. The middle pickup is gutted with a 9v battery taped inside.

related to guitar playing somewhat....
So while my youngest son (Zach 16) plays Bass since the 6th grade with his HS Rock and roll academy bands, my middle son Andrew (20) has been developing his career as a Lighting designer, stagehand, Production manager and made a connection with one of his mentors to get a job with this Death Metal Band - Archspire
This developed quickly and he leaves for Europe Feb 27th for a month of touring with them. Hes only been on a plane once before, and he's never been out of the country let alone with out us. Needless to say we are wrought with anxiety and excitement for him. This genre of music is not my thing (him either really) but he's doing it for the experience and will make a nice chunk of change while touring 15+ countries.

I cant understand the words but the speed at which these guys play music is just insanity. If this tour goes well on both sides, when he comes back in April he will join their US tour from mid-April to June ( i think).
