What's disappointing and makes me mad is how you don't consider better brakes as a MUST DO when you build something like this. Just glad no one got more seriously injured or killed especially the folks he ran into.

Wow. Interesting watch, definitely terrifying to see the impending crash from their perspective.

Totally agree with the "especially the folks that he ran into". He doesn't really mention them in the video, unless I missed that. I've wondered in the past when working on my own cars what level of liability I'd have if something were to go wrong as the result of a mistake that I made. I'm also curious if there's any kind of civil lawsuit coming out of this incident. These guys were completely negligent on multiple fronts. Noticed a sticking throttle, chose to drive anyway, noticed a problem with 17 year old brakes, chose to continue driving, no handbrake, accelerating somewhat hard in traffic between lights in a car with all of these factors...

yeah there's some humility in the narrative, but considering this is a Youtube channel/show they run I would have liked to see some emphasis about how they impacted the innocent people stopped at that traffic light. Im no expert but its likely legal reasons they can't mention an apology or any kind of assistance they offered those folks. It's always about lawsuits especially in the US, but like you said there's a LOT of admitted negligence just in the video which the victims can (and should) use to get compensated IMHO.

At the very least he is showing what he did wrong and how all the factors leading up to it could have been addressed to prevent it from happening in the first place. If one home mechanic/DIY person learns from it I guess its a good thing.

Actually what gets me is not wearing a shoulder belt.

I owned one of those and I vividly remember my brother driving my car around the block at 100% reasonable speeds and sitting in the passenger seat with the lap belt and metal dashboard was very scary.

Just in general, I have mixed feelings over this idea that the street is a place for what is essentially a hand built prototype vehicle. And one with 1300hp at that.
 
Just so many things wrong with that wreck. Sad part is that car will never be rebuilt since it'll have to be parted out to cover the coming litigation.

ya, I would say that maybe if I get in my car today and my brakes fail I could say....well, I am not a car mechanic and there is no inspection in my state...so :shrug:. This video is some solid evidence of everything that was wrong with this car and ignored.

Really makes me want to remove the 3 point belts that I installed (from a modern mustang) and put 5 point harness' in my car.

I guess you feel some pressure having the film crew show up and the car isnt working right...but dam...I can tell you that I one had the mustang towed home because a valve cover gasket blew out and started leaking oil onto my header....annoying, but not dangerous.. throttle sticking + Brakes not working correctly...F THAT. 60s cars are DEADLY in an accident and anyone who tells you they were "MADE OF REAL METAL AND SOLID" is batshit crazy...they were all terribly unsafe, including my mustang. ESPECIALLY my mustang. Everyone hates on Ralph Nader and hes really hard to like, but cant argue that he was correct. You never want to be in an accident in an old American car.
 
Car show @ Northlandz on Saturday, July 23. Might stop by on the bike in the morning. That one is too long to hang out in a car (11 to 4, entries get there around 10).
