Park Rat Thread

I'd imagine tempest side of mountain just going to stay closed till the memorial day weekend race so they can limit taping and un taping a course . Still a bunch of stuff that's rideable over there but it's all the steep gnar . Can't wait for the new red bull feature it's already taking shape much excite
That diagram doesn’t show how you get on top of the box, obviously on a slope style course they would jump up to it but I assume you are riding on to this one, thoughts?

Who cares it will be awesome either way . Most likely just dirt build up to ride up on top , prob a small shipping container that theve used in the past as an over under

Knowing George it will be like the 99 step up that only like three people have done lol

Figure this is a good spot to ask, what is the most beginner friendly bike park within 2ish hours? I don't me like noob beginner I've been to Creek just wanna try new places and bringing someone for their first park experience.

Killington has a ton of greens and blues but is well beyond 2 hrs. Check out the thunder and highlnd trail maps but they also are over 2 hrs. Powder ridge in CT has some greens but it's a small park.

While Blue Mtn is mostly "blue" trails, I'm not sure I'd consider it very beginner friendly. The trails tend to be rough and get little maintenance with a fair number of "sniper" features that can catch an inexperienced rider out.

I agree Powder Ridge is probably the most beginner friendly park in the area. Whether or not it meets the time criteria will depend on where you live.

It looks like options would be Creek, thunder mtn, Blue mtn or Windham. Which would be best for a first timer. I am hoping to hit Killington this year but looking for a day trip

Facts, if you cut your teeth at creek you can pretty well manage alot of the north east bike park trails.
I am bringing someone that has never ridden park at all. He is probably close to my ability so should be fine but I also don't know how risk averse he may be. Hoping for fun no matter.

Creek will be fun for them. The greens will be good. I spent a full year at creek working on my skills and getting used to the speed that downhill riding brings. Worked my way up and then started exploring and then found out pretty much every place else is so much easier.

I may be biased but Creek is the best park for all skill levels.

I’d say Blue or Powder Ridge alternatively. Blue can be really fun. Powder ridge is fun too but it’s really small and the lifts are slow AF. It’s right at 2 hours for me and I will only do it for a race. I’d probably drive to Blue for a fun day…it’s worth it.

Windham is great. They don't have a huge selection, but the trails are pretty well thought-out. The green trail (forgot the name) is super, super beginner friendly and it goes on forever. You could probably ride it on a gravel bike. Even the blue trails aren't all that difficult. Plus the atmosphere is great, it's super mellow and non-intimidating for a newcomer. I mean, it's in the Catskills.

Would definitely recommend.

First time at Creek this season yesterday. Tempest still closed and I avoided some of the tech while it was wet. The heavy hitters Dominion, Salvation, Domboo and Crap Chute were running great, I thought. Indy was still primo. You can see the guys put in effort on those trails. Alpine was a bit rough, I thought, but maybe they haven't gotten to it.

They were digging/working near the progression drops, I'm assuming where the new feature will go.

Also, more "cabins" on the lift, so spacing is back to tight when you get on/off. Wonder how many bikes will get caught/crushed this season?!

Yahoo for big bike season!

Windham just sent out a mail saying they added 4 new trails which is exciting since they dont have a large number trails to begin with. They did not say if they are full length trails like Batavia or Katerskil or half mtn trails like anthill but new trails nonetheless. Stoked to get up there and ride again in July again for a little getaway.

Warm weather is finally here to stay at Windham Mountain and blue skies have made us so excited for the summer ahead. The Windham Mountain Bike Park opens Saturday, June 18, and we're stoked to be opening four new trails this season. Ranging in difficulty from intermediate to advanced, these new trails add great variety (as well as new drops, rock gardens, and berms, oh my!).

This totally threw me off. My wheel got sandwiched between two lifts my first ride up this season. No damage but I definitely panicked and almost didn’t make it off the lift in time.

I assure you, we're (not) open.
