Tell me where you rode today...

In case anyone missed the news - it's cold outside. Still... I wanted to get out for a ride. A friend posted on FB she had accidentally left a couple of water bottles at the Pennypack lot, so I went there to look for them and get in a ride. Arrived, rode around the lot until I found the bottles (yay!) and continued.

All was going well until I took one of the option loops that has a small jump on it while going down a short hill. I hit the jump, tried to brake-check - and nothing happened. Oh yeah... I still need to go over the brakes on the Chameleon... all skills went out the window and over the berm at the bottom and I just managed to lay it down before tumbling into the creek. Oops.

Now the rear brake had completely stopped working - lever to the grip and no amount of pumping would bring it back. Yeah... definitely needs a bleed. So limped back to the van and went home. On the plus side, the trails were totally frozen solid, so no mud today.

Oh well... at least I found the water bottles.

'Tis a good looking bike:

How it ended up post-crash (note the creek):

Now to figure out how to get these to Kim down in Philly. Apparently the one with the pig has sentimental value:

What brakes were they?

Only on Sundays

XT 4-piston, but I bought them used some time ago. I'm going to try sanding and cleaning the pads and rotors again as well as bleeding them. The rear hose is annoyingly long anyway. If they still give me problems, I may try a set of Paul's Klampers, but I'd rather keep the XTs since they use the same brake pads as the Megatower. My long term plan is to do van trips and I want to keep the number of spares to a minimum. At the moment, the two Santa Cruz bikes are running nearly identical parts that can be swapped from one to the other if necessary.

Today - back to Pennypack, although back on the Spot. I actually felt really good today and was climbing better than I had in some time. It also makes me wonder if the mild illness I was feeling early in the week was NOT (the virus that shall not be named...) and was just a cold. Vaxxed or not, I haven't heard of anyone recovering that quickly. It was cold and breezy and the creek crossings were exciting at times. We didn't stop that much or for very long, so I didn't get many pictures... plus, I really need to make room on my phone.

Another cold start:

Stopped near the meadow waiting for a horse rider to pass:

We built up a new log ride for Tom (above) to ride, but my phone flaked out and the picture didn't save.

It'll be interesting to see what the weather leaves for tomorrow... maybe I'll be able to go for a short ride on the gravel bike.

It is silent at this old ruin right now because the road just beyond it is closed for repairs. Kind of a weird feeling because there is usually a lot of car noise here. But since this is Philly, it'll probably be closed for the next year to two ...

Wissahickon on Sat and Pennypack on Sunday. My phone has been acting up, so I didn't get any pictures. I think I need to spend an hour or so and clear out some files.

Sat was a bit chilly, but Sun was great. Comfortable to ride, but not quite warm enough to thaw out the mud.
