Biggest loser

Couple days in, a couple lbs down.
Haven't gotten in a good cardio workout yet, but the eating and drinking is reeled in.
Haven't had a snack, and keeping to a decent meal schedule -

Was officiating out on Staten Island yesterday, so on my feet for 4+ hours being somewhat active.
It included raking the long jump pit for almost an hour, so the shoulders and neck are feeling it.

We went out to Tommy's Tavern on the island afterwards. I really had no urge for beer, but did score a huge burger.
ate about two bites and tossed the bun. Will hit up the one in Bridgewater in the future. Wasn't a horrible price.

W1f3 is having an ACL replacement right now, so I'll be home for a couple days. Bike is on the trainer....

For energy?

I really don't believe ingesting fat helps burn more fat than ingested on its own.

The intention of any fasting period is zero glucose spikes. The body then reaches in the fridge for easy energy which is carbs/glucose already in the body. Once you burn through them, then it reaches in the fridge again for the harder to reach energy source.. fat.

Throw a ride in there and you burn through those existing carbs two times quick. And now you are fat burning.

Hubby did something similar - the "bulletproof" coffee - he tried it with coconut oil but then went to ghee. Not for me - but he felt good having it to start his morning. Granted, he wasn't riding but CrossFit.

Doesn't your body swap to Fat any time you run out of glucose? During a long ride that's what the bonk is, your body switching energy sources. Although I assume Fasting gets you there without having to put in as much exercise.

I always felt like hot garbage riding during fasting which is why I'm not doing IF during this and mornings are usually my jam for workouts.

Likely doubled down too soon. If i was starting up IF and wanted to ride and my rides had to be in the AM, then im fasting late afternoon into the evening.

Ive ridden over 5 hours at LT2/tempo pace with nothing but water and felt amazing.

Week 1,Day 2 of the E2M plan. 1st time doing intermittent fasting.

I've always been a wake up and eat breakfast as soon as possible and over the last few years, consume 2 more meals and a few snacks during the day, wrapping it up around 7pm. Throw in a DIPA or 2 more than occasionally, have a busy desk job, reduced exercise then get injured. The weight gain happens quick.

To make this work, Dry Jan, morning exercise and prepped meals between an 8hr window, 10:30a and 6:30p for me. A gallon of water and black coffee only daily. A very generous list of foods is allowed in specific portions. Wife and I were already eating most of it.
Intermittent fasting in the morning is great. You give your body time to digest and break down food from the day before. (Meat can take up to 48 hours to digest!) By eliminating one meal from your day you also reduce your overall calorie consumption, which will eventually lead to weight loss.
Weight training on an empty stomach was no problem for me but doing a ride with no food in my system was an issue. I found that any ride lasting more than 45 mins required an energy gel or chew. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Mountain bike and high efforts? I can see that if you jump right into it.

In my 3 year experience doing this, i had to give my body time to adjust. I didnt start mtbing till about 3-4 months doing it. Now i can show up anytime ready to roll. At the mtbnj Stephens ride my blood glucose levels were in the low 80’s

Yesterday was cold, wet and windy. After 2 minutes on the bike I had to ask myself “why am I out here, this sucks”. Quick thinking led me to two points:

- It’s only January, this won’t get any easier
- I have ridden in way worse

After this I made a point to stay out for an hour, but after 25 minutes I was perfectly comfortable and got 1:38 min. I have to keep that attitude up!

Week 1 - Down Five Pounds
Now I know a lot of this is water weight from three Xmas dinners plus tons of food on New Years, but it is a great mental boost. This first week went fast, a touch over 13 weeks to go for me.

I should also note - the only fluids I am taking in are water and black coffee. Lots of water.

You are testing regularly now?

My fasting number last check up was 76.

Nice!! I havent seen over 110 in a long time. I am usually consistent around low 80s and after rides into the 60’s.

This has been going on for about 3 years now so i dont check daily, after meals or after workouts with as much enthusiasm as i did when i started. Now i check every Saturday mornings once a week. When i started i even bought the super expensive keto stripes- $3 a pop.

i make up for it in BP - i'm going to explode if i don't lose the weight and get it down.

This is a bit misleading. Your body will use and break down muscle in addition to fat when there is no glucose available for sustained energy. That’s where intermittent fasting can be a problem for certain athletes.

We all know there is no silver bullet other than commitment and consistency and even that wont cut it with pre existing conditions.

Now you are dipping to muscle fiber types which you would need a biopsy- getting uber weird. So if thats the trade off then i will just supplement with weights. 86 first reps in the books as of 530am...

I've been living in this body for 56 years, and there is no way I can do that fasting stuff - much better results from caloric source manipulation.

And only black coffee please. I have coffee gear for any condition or climate!
