Interesting bikes that showed up at bike shops while they operated with closed/locked doors!

Same here... I have so... much... stuff... that I'm never going to use again. It'll be a long thread...

Finally put my old Tazer dual slalom bike up for sale last night. Had interest in it, but the buyer finally realized what it is and that it really isn't a trail bike. I think I rode it maybe 10 times over the four years I've had it. Fun toy, but I need to get stuff out of my house before the renovation gets started.

Nope....Was just busy the last few days...Here's another one...

1991/92 (?) Cannondale M800 Beast Of The East.... LX drivetrain and thumb shifters...Force 40 brakes...Pepperoni fork...Smoke tires....nice shape....(exactly the way it rolled in, haven't had time to remove the bell and kickstand yet...or fix the QR situation)

I think it's a '91. I had a '92 Delta V 900 with LX but it had Rapidfire "push-push" shifters.

The brake pulley existed for a few years before it was replaced with the force 40 version. The idea was the pulley would double the braking force at the rim. It was sort of a precursor to the V-brakes that would soon follow. Love them or hate them, cannondale was working hard to innovate in a way that everyone benefited from

looking back at these bikes makes it seem like we are so soft now to ride the biIkes that are now commonplace.

with inner tubes and 26x1.95 tires the PSI might have been 20 lbs higher than what we might run these days.

I can hear in my head just how loud these bikes were without the clutch ders we now ride. The chains wouls smash the chain stays with such a clang that the paint was often missing across the chain stays


the mtb boom of the 90s might have been even more intense if the bikes worked like today’s bikes.

Even disregarding the clutch, it's remarkable just how many years it took bike companies to start providing any kind of halfway reasonable chainstay protection. It's not exactly rocket science. The fact that standard procedure was to buy a top of the line bike and then wrap the chainstay with a cut up inner tube and electrical tape is insane.

And for the record, selling a bike like this is a royal pain in the arse. I'm really trying to be patient, but when I get questions about wheel size and frame size (after specifically stating in the ad it only came in one), I so want to just respond by saying, "your question indicates you don't know what this bike is and what it's built for. Go away..."
 
Thinking about those Force 40 brakes is giving me PSTD... Swapping them out for the "plus" versions wasn't much of an improvement. I then ended up with Magura rim brakes, which actually worked consistently for the next few years I rode that bike before building up my IF, which had XTR V-brakes. I think Maguras were the best rim brake, but back then it wasn't as easy to get non-integrated Shimano shifters.
