What have you done to your bike today?

That looks like the ultimate Enduro bike! You racing Enduro this year Mike? I want in!

That's the plan Antonio, I'm looking to do the whole Eastern
State Cup series, first race is at Plattekill, scheduled for June 1st. But may get pushed a week. You should do it. You'd kill it

I watched a video of last years plattekill course. Looks like a lot of fun.

Must have been an autocorrect error in your post. I fixed it. ;)

My additions so far...

Deity bars, Thompson dropper and stem and just yesterday converted to 1x10

For the more Veterans amongst you this isnt anything special but today i installed a new hose on my front break, bled it out and fully installed for the first time ever. im pretty chuffed and it was a good job if i do say so myself.

Front hose when i built the bike was waaaaaay too short so i killed two birds with one stone. installed a blue hose for a bit of bling why the hell not.

Another pretty simple but huge (for me) upgrade. Finally switched from rim brakes to disc on my hardtail (in the rear anyway). Still gotta figure out the front. Damn you disc/mount compatibility issues!

Lighter

I added the Whiskey # 9 carbon fork to the krampus.

It really makes a difference when pulling a trailer:rolleyes: to have a lighter, heavy bike.

More of a synopsis than just today:

Crashed the Trance, which snapped the thumb shifter and bent the brake lever. Tried straightening the lever which was going very well, right up until it wasn't. Snap. It was $30 for a new XT lever, not terrible I guess. Turned out to be a HUGE pita getting the lever pin back in. Other than that it was easy enough to change with the typical Shimano clever little servicing touches.

The pin/axle turned put to be slightly bent also, tried to order one locally but never heard back from the shop. Works fine though. Ordered a new shifter from eBay and swapped over my nifty red "X9" logo cover for the grey I bought. Cool.

Scored a Park work stand off CL for a total steal, with tool tray and handlebar hook. Can't believe how much I accomplished without it! I'd wanted one but in the pics online the stand's legs looked weedy, but its a bear. Score!

Funny, Sunday I heard a odd noise from the bike and turned out I had a small stick in the back tire. Like a total moron I yanked it out, which of course made the leak faster. I knew I'd been putting off refilling Stan's for too long so I pedaled as fast as I could back to the car! Took care of the sealer when I got home which turned out to be cake with the stand. Just broke one bead off, dumped in Stan's, popped the bead back on and aired it up. Didn't even have to take wheels off.

Last, I installed the somewhat pompously named backcountry research "awesome strap" underseat storage for tube and co2's. Once I try it I'll report back but seems decent so far. If you find some unused co2's laying around, they might be mines. :p

Dave those straps need to be gorilla strength pulled. I have lost more tubes then I liked. My take is they are ok but definitely not awesome...

Went to Halters today and got a new set of wheels on the supersix - mavic ksyrium sls - 0.5 kilo lighter than the stock shimano R500s. Also a new gear cone with a slightly grannier granny gear (28 teeth instead of 26). The black and white matches perfectly imo

How much it cost? Im thinking of upgrading my wheelset. Thanks!

Figured I would bring back this thread from it's vacation. I picked up an old Mongoose bmx for a restoration project. It's a Mongoose General Hustler - probably an '87. It has been neglected for probably 25 years. I found spider webs IN the tires which were completely dry rot. So I have been putting in a little time here and there to get it back to it's fully functioning status.

The first hitch I ran into should have been a pretty simple thing. Removing the front wheel. When the bike was last put together, the person must have cranked the ever living shit out of the nut because the washer was smashed up and half in the fork and half outside it. It even took in some threads. Impressive.

I took the front wheel off today finally and am now cleaning it - removing 25 year old grease, bug carcasses, spider webs and patina. Here's some progress pics.

The beginning:

Next post I'll pop the current.

I have new white tires and a white chain to go on next. Then it's cables, a little more clean up and hitting the pump track.

Here's an update on my bmx project. I got some time to work on the rims (after tearing out the walls of garage - that's another story/project). Here are comparisons between the cleaned rim and the not cleaned rim. You can even see the lettering again! I think I have to respoke the wheels. The spokes aren't shining up and have some good sized rust pits.
