For my son, he's always switching to flats to do wheeles around the hood.

thatll work - pretty sweet. looks like 1/4" diamondplate. just need to cut the shape and then drill and tap some holes.

Shimano on their OEM pedals has those with reflectors. Made out of plastic though.

I have a whole bunch if anyone needs a set or two.

I've made some of those from a broken skateboard deck. Same idea, slightly different execution. A router but makes for a nice edge.
